Roxio Version 14.0.49.2; 5.0.0.0 - Can You Rip Audio From Dvd?

Question

I load a DVD (not Blu-ray), select Music-Audio / "Create Music Disc Projects" / “Import from CD/DVD", then VIDEO_TS under the DVD drive. The DVD Chapters show (they are songs on a concert DVD), but when I try to play/preview one, I get pop-up "Internal Error: No Streaming-Codec found for this type of Audio". I can highlight the chapters (individual songs), but the Add button (to add chapters to the burn section) remains grayed out. VIDEO_TS shows the DVD content as one movie with chapters, so I am not sure if it is protected. Attached in a general screenshot.

I am following the steps in this Roxio article: http://img.roxio.com/enu/pdf/creator2010/extract-audio-from-dvd.pdf.

When I try to preview a chapter, and then dismiss the error pop-up, the error repeats automatically for the next chapter in the list, and keeps looping through the chapter list this way. I have to restart Roxio to clear the error.

Any help appreciated. TIA.

Hello Gene,

I'm afraid you can't do what you want with that DVD and Easy CD & DVD Burning version 14.

To explain, Easy CD & DVD Burning version 14 is a cut down, emasculated, reduced capability version of Creator 2012. For some reason the owners decided to remove a lot of the useful parts of Creator 2012 and sell the rest cheaply.

None of the advertising indicates which parts or which capabilities have been removed, and buyers are often left disappointed. Their options are then to go to another vendor's software, or to buy the full Creator suite with a discount which about equals the price of Easy CD & DVD Burning (but doesn't compensate for your lost time and effort)..

In your case I checked by finding a DVD with "Unspecified AC3 audio" tracks and ripped it first on a system running ECD&DVD 14. It gave the same result as you get.

I then tried the same DVD in a system running Creator 2012, and it ripped happily.

It seems to me that the part you need for this job has been unceremoniously removed by Roxio. :(

Regards,

Brendon

It works OK in my Red Box version, however it could be that the needed codec was added from NXT 3 <_<

I don't have a PC with a install of the Red Box by itself. Is that what you used Brendon?

Yes. You need to have clean installs with no cross-pollination from another or a previous version for testing.

Did you use a DVD with the "Unspecified (AC3 Stereo)" language reported? I had to search through many to find one.

Thank you for all the replies.

What is the significance of "Selected Language: Unspecified (AC3 Stereo)"? The DVD I am attempting to rip does indicate this. You need a special codec to process these (ie, Creator has this codec and Easy Burning 14 does not)?

Since Creator ripped yours, can we say my DVD is not encrypted/protected?

TIA.

Hello again Gene,

It appears that Jim didn't pick a DVD similar to yours at all, and the one I used was only similar and not identical. (see protection below)

Yes, you need a special codec to process those "Selected Language: Unspecified (AC3 Stereo)" tracks, and it has been removed from Easy CD & DVD Burning v14.

A number of the most popular audio and video codecs have been not only removed from the software, but actively disabled so you can't install them manually. [words fail me]

As to your DVD, that padlock icon in there post-208-0-84897300-1454499216_thumb.jpg indicates it's a protected disc. That's another issue apart from your AC3 tracks, because all Roxio software is designed so it won't break protection.

Regards,

Brendon
