Burning To Bluray(Bdr)

ronko

Question

I replaced Roxio 12 with NXT4 in order to burn data files to Bluray discs. Well attempting a data copy gets the same results - it does not recognize a BDR as a "writable" and keeps asking me to insert a writable disc -- same exact thing Roxio 12 was doing. I was able to write to a re-writable (BDE) but it does not like BDR's. I see they have a plugin but it says this is for writing video files to Blurays. I am running Windows 10 and it tells me that the drivers are up to date on my optical disk writer.

I replaced my burner with an LG, BH16 and was able to do 2 data copies to BD-R's. So it appears my old writer was the problem. Burned 20+ GB to each - about 13 min. each.

When I booted up after installing the drive, NXT 4 installed an upgrade. Do not know if this had anything to do with the new hardware or if Roxio just had an upgrade ready.

I am using both Memorex and Verbatim BD-R's.

It would be the SP3 patch - that's a hotfix for FastFlick, which was pushed out recently.

Neither of mine had the NXT 4, SP3 patch installed at the time I tested... (back to phase 1  )

BD-R burned OK on the Win 10 PC that has the SP3 update. That was the same one that was successful before but I have not applied that update to my other PC... That is the one with the questionable drive anyway so there is little point in revisiting that puppy ;)

Thank you guys for the help and support! I've burned data to 10 - 15 BD-R so far without errors or problems. This is about a third the number of DL DVD's from before. I will keep those for awhile until I'm confident these Blu Rays will still be readable 6 mos. - 1 yr from now but everything looks good now and NXT 4 is running fast and efficient. Thanks again.

Sorry to nag but since you mentioned video files. Please confirm you are after a Data Disc project and not a BD Movie...

Did you pursue this when you had Roxio Creator 2012?

Does it do it with DVD's to?

Which specific burning program are you trying with as there are a few in the Roxio Suites?

What Other burn programs have you tried - Windows has had its' own burning programs since XP.

I am not trying to burn/copy movies. Have been using Data Copy (believe these are Data Disc Projects) to copy data files and folders (Creator 12) for several years now. These were to DVD-DL, DVD-RW. Would like to copy these files to Blu ray discs to take advantage of the extra storage space. Both Creator 12 and NXT4 allow me to write to BD-RE but not to BD-R's. I'm starting to suspect that my Blu ray DVD writer is bad and have purchased a new one but first want to make sure it's not something I missed about the software.

The laser would be the same I would think writing to BD-RE or BD-R's.

It did the same thing in both Creator 2012 and NXT4, doesn't sound like a software problem!

What is the name brand of the BD-RE and BD-R disc's?

Install the new writer and tell us if the problem is still there?

Testing indicates the Drive...

Note the italics, meaning I cannot conclude 110% that is the issue

I used 2 PC's both with Win 10. One had a M-Disc Burner the other an LG. (the M-Disc burner has been a bit erratic from the day I got it) My NXT 4 is only on my two Win 10 PC's.

The one with the M-Disc drive Will Not write to any BD-R I tried!. It will write to a DVD-R and a BD-RE - as you found.

With BD Burners in the $60 range you might want to consider replacing yours... Although if it can write to BD-R from other applications, it becomes a head scratcher ;)

Let us know what you do.
