Audio Is Decent But No Video Signal

Question

I'm trying to use the program on old vhs tapes from my childhood with my family and transfer the tapes into DVDs to split with my sis and parents. The audio is okay being when some tapes were taken but I can't get the video to work, the software claims no video signal. Please can anyone help? I'm using a Mitsubishi hs-U540 vcr and I feel clueless right now.

Couldn't find any useful data on that model so I will have to ask you.

HOW are you hooked up to it? Make absolutely sure you are connecting to OUTPUT. Most units also have an Input side which results in a blank.

Have you tried any other composite devices with the Roxio Capture USB? Something like another Player but it has to be Yellow, White, Red. (some have Red, Blue, Green, white & red - won't work!)

Also an S-Video connector using with the Audio connections will work.

Answer those and we should be able to help ;)

Found one (manual) !

There should be no issues connecting the USB device to the clearly marked jacks on the back of the device (see image). Put in a good commercial tape to see if there is input to your computer. Note. the monitor might have a scrambled image because of some early copyright protection.. Let us know what you see on your computer monitor.

Use good quality cables that are connected tightly.

I've connected USBs to the laptop before and it works, I'm wondering if it's how I plug in my rca cables or does that matter? Or could it be the laptop? Or could the old rca cables affect it?

Of course it matters audio out, video out!

RCA cables are a simple wire. A coat hanger will do in a pinch

But as all of us are telling you OUTPUT is the important connection!

In the illustration that Steve posted, it is the Bottom Three you are after. they will say Output. (of course these 3 go into the Roxio Capture USB)

Also keep in mind the other test I mentioned - substitute another device.
