Menus In Mydvd In Nxt4

out of harms way

Question

Hi, I have decided to start a new topic for what could be quite a few queries on MyDVD in NXT4 in addition to those I have covered regarding burning and text editing in a previous thread. I have been spending a lot of time playing with MyDVD and, although I have spent over 11 years using earlier versions I am struggling to make sense of this Mickey Mouse version. I sincerely hope I'm missing something and that there is someone out there who can put me straight.

So, my first query is - how do I play all my videos via a menu? I have a project with say 2 videos - the Root Menu shows a link for each. However, when I play the first video it does not go on to play the second. In previous versions you could specify which video played next and I usually arranged that all videos would play in order after playing the first. Quite a basic requirement!! What am I missing?

Hope you can help.

While I wait for a response from Corel regarding the "play all" query I was wondering whether anyone had found a solution or workaround for a couple of other shortcomings of MyDVD -

1. I would like to add links to chapters in the root menu. I am used to using chapters extensively - putting all the videos on as a single movie and using chapters to split the final dvd with a link to each chapter.

2. Assuming I can't add links to chapters in the root menu I would like to use text in the chapter menu rather than the picture thumbnails. It seems that all of the chapter menu themes are picture thumbnails. My separate videos usually start with a colour panel, so all my thumbnails would probably be blank colour panels!!

Depending on the response from Corel on the "play all" query using chapters may well be the only way to "play all".

(I tried to paste an example JPG of what I'm trying to achieve. I pasted it but I wasn't allowed to post it. Is this a general restriction or was the size an issue?)

You don't copy and paste to a post you attach the .jpg file to the post.

Did you upgrade to NXT4 because of W-10?

Thanks for that. I still couldn't find it at first until I clicked on "More Reply Options". Never tried that before!!

Anyway, the attached is an example of what I am trying to achieve with NXT4. This was done with NXT. The text is directly added to the main menu and the chevrons are the links to the chapters. I could ignore the warning about the maximum of 4 links by saying no to a new menu. Worked perfectly.

The simple answer is that you will never be able to create a menu structure like that in NXT 4...

There is some that you can do, Drop all you movies on the main menu or use sub-menus, create chapters. You can combine movie clips in VideoWave (you knew that ;) ) but you can't edit the background or change buttons and as you noted 'Play All' is gone :( (you did know that 'Play All' only worked in DVD projects)

That's what I suspected. Corel have gone very quiet - they have not responded to my query about the basic requirement of "Play All". It's a disaster!!

I have an old Vista laptop that I am going to try and resurrect, install NXT on it and use it just for MyDVD.

Many thanks for the confirmation that MyDVD on NXT4 is c**p!! I feel completely conned by Corel, but unfortunately it is the only version that is compatible with Win-10.

Thanks again.

Following your last post I looked to see what old programs I had and found EMC10. I installed it alongside NXT4 on my WIN-10 and withing a few minutes I had MyDVD working as it always had done - using video files created in NXT4. I know it's early days and I might yet find a few issues with it - at least it isn't displaying the audio insertion problems I had with NXT on WIN-10. If you wish I can let you know what success I have with it.

Anyway, many, many thanks for giving me a kick in the right direction.

It's Easy Media Creator 10 Suite - version no. 10.1.226. I only got the download version - no disc. I upgraded from a disc version, which I still have, called "Roxio Creator & MyDVD 9.0 DE" around 2010.

MyDVD in EMC10 is the same as it was in NXT(1). It doesn't have a specific "play all" button, but for each video you can specify which video or chapter is played next, so after starting the first one it can automatically play through all the others - effectively "play all". You can apply this to videos added to the main menu, and also chapters created in the main menu. I usually insert all my videos as a single movie and then create chapters in the main menu - I don't use "chapter menus". The chapters then don't necessarily have to coincide with the start of a video. I add "unlinked" buttons and then link them as required to the start of chapters.

It is still working fine in Win-10.

I think that Mickey would be offended. He is smarter than that.

The controls should be under "Settings" but all that is there is PAL/NTSC (for me at least). The writer of the users document didn't talk to the developers. It almost looks like there is a "light" version in NXT; I wonder if there is a full version in the Corel product?

Edit: I just looked at Corel's Q and A and there was a post and almo9st answer to indicate that MyDVD in Corel's Video Editing program is the same as the one in NXT 4.

Can you believe that Roxio charges $50 for MyDVD as a stand alone product?
