Ccv6 Will Burn Using One Burner But Not The Other

Recommended Posts

I am using Creator Classic V6.2.0.111 and have two Pioneer burners in my PC. One is a DVR-118L and the other a DVR-113NP. The firmware on both burners (and the program) is up to date. The problem I am having is I am unable to burn CD/DVDs with the 118 drive. I am able to do everything else with the program using that drive, including running the drive tests built into the program, but if that drive is selected as the burning drive for a project, the burn process hangs on the "writing TOC" and does not progress past that point. (It does not write the TOC - the disc remain blank.) I have tried several brands of media (but prefer Maxell and Verbatim) but that does not fix the problem.

Other programs such as IMGBURN and DVD Copy have no problems burning using either drive. Exact Audio Copy confirms that the 118 drive is the better of the two drives in terms of performance. CCV6 has no problem with the 113 drive.

How can I correct this problem so that I can use either drive?

Thanks

Hello Sansdancer,

You might have been lucky to get your DVR-113NP running in Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, since the drive came along well after the software was finished, and this software only explicitly recognized up to the DVR-108. The 118 is even later than the 113.

There is still a chance you might push it hard enough to use the 118 with this software. There were some "Drive Updates" provided to help with drive recognition. The last was DU20040630, published in June 2004.

Happily this update is still available today at this page. Be 'vewy vewy quiet' talking about it, lest they take the page down. I'm not sure how it has escaped the purges for this long.

The one you want is the last item on the page.

Log on and download, then run the executable. Restart the software and try it. No guarantees, but it might help.

Please come back and let me know how you get on.

Brendon,

Thanks for that link. It successfully installed, but did not fix the problem. The only changes are that now the program does write the TOC on the disc but that is as far as it goes. (Only now the disc is no longer blank - a coaster.) It will let me cancel the recording, but after that I have to use task manager to close the program and my computer won't eject the disc. I have to use the "paperclip in the force-open hole" trick to get the disc out.

Unless someone has a better solution, I'll just have to keep using the 113 burner for this program. Thanks for the suggestion as it was worth a try.

Sansdancer,

In rare cases where you have a burner made after 2004 the software might not "recognize" your burner despite applying the Drive Updater file. When that happened once to me I got a popup suggesting a Roxio download. That gave me devicetable.exe, which solved the recognition problem. I've left a copy of that here.

Devicetable.txt

Because the board software won't let me upload an .exe file I renamed it to Devicetable.txt.

Download it, and then rename it back to devicetable.exe to use it.

I have no idea just what it "tweaks" but it worked for me that time, and I haven't been able to break anything by running it in XP today.

That's about all the ideas I have, I'm sorry. I think the cause will be a change in the firmware between the DVR-113 and the DVR-118, but burner firmware is outside my experience.

Regards,

Brendon

Brendon,

That had no effect for me. Still just writes the TOC and then does not progress from that point. I can "cancel recording" but then the program stops responding to any commands and I have to use task manager to shut it down. The drive keeps spinning and is also unresponsive.

Thanks for offering advice and some solutions. I appreciate your efforts.
