Confused Instructions...

pklonowski

Question

Picked up Easy VHS to DVD3, intending to use it for cassette to mp3 conversions. Page 23 of the manual says to "connect a stereo receiver to your computer using the Roxio Video Capture USB device." It doesn't indicate which of the many connections on the stereo receiver to use. Or does it mean the cassette deck?

Cassette deck output worked... had a few glitches with the software, but I'm up & running...

I noticed the Video side uses the output from the VHS player, so this does make sense. But Roxio could improve the instructions.... Should say Cassette Deck, not Stereo Receiver.

Thank you!

Yes.

Some Cassette decks have a pre-amp's built in and others don't the later would need to be run through a Amp/Stereo Receiver.

The connection from the Receiver would be from the "Tape Out" jacks. Those are automatically switched to give a line-level output of whatever you're listening to, LP (Phono), Aux, or Radio. However, the "Tape Out" jacks are NOT switched to send the signal that's being listened to from the tape deck, because if the tape deck is set to record, you'll get a feedback loop.... unless there are two tape inputs. Then you can usually hit the dubbing switch to send the output from one tape deck to the other via the "Tape Out" jacks.

So, the receiver is a more generic signal source than a Cassette/Tape deck since many people are capturing from LP rather than from cassette.
