Split Screen When Recording From A Vga Or Dvi Source

Question

Hello folks :) ,

I want to capture footage from older pc games. For this reason I've hooked up my Game Capture HD Pro to an separate PC. The desktop resolution is 1280x1024 60hz. I've tried two variants.

1. Via an DVI to HDMI adapter: The image in the preview window is shown to be zoomed in, so only a small area is visible.

2. Via an VGA to HDMI converter (1:1, no scaling): The image seems to have the correct size, but is split in the middle, like it has problems with the vertical synchronisation. I don't know if this is a problem with the converter, but the datasheets says, that it support the given resolution.

Do you have any ideas how I can solve this problem?

PS: Which input resolutions does the Game Capture HD Pro actually support?

Many thanks in advance!

Resolution isn't the issue. The capture will be what the input is.

It only accepts Composite or HDMI. But HDMI adapters can be a little flaky, some work some do not. Of course one would expect at least one of yours to work.

Do they work when attached to your TV or Monitor?

Do you have a BD/DVD/VHS Player that accepts one of those Inputs and has a needed output you can try?

Unfortunately I think the resolution is an issue here. I've hooked up the RGC via variant 1 (dvi>hdmi) and used my TV as the monitor. When I start the source PC with this configuration, it works, but Windows XP will limit the available desktop resolutions to 800x600, 1152x648 and 1920x720.

I've tested two games.

1. Dune 2000: The original ingame resolution is 640x400 16:10. At first I get a disoriented image, after I start the game. (Might be the transition from the windows desktop to ingame). When I reselect the source, I see a stable image, but it got resized to 720x480 4:3.

2. 1602 A.D.: Ingame I can choose between three resolution modes 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. 800x600 kinda works. The captured footage has a resolution of 1920x720 4:3 and the game screen is somehow centered in this frame. In 640x480 the image is screwed and selecting 1024x768 will prompt an error message on the source PC.

Resolution is not the issue. The RGC will only capture at the best resolution it sees from the Input. You can't capture higher than what is there.

Common to all errors is your adapter(s)...

How does it work with the HDMI straight from the Xbox One?
