Doesn't Capture Gameplay

I have a HDMI cable coming from my laptop to the device to capture my laptop screen. I hit record and it starts recording but then when i start up a game apparently it stops recording but when i tab out it starts recording again. Then i tab back to the game and it stops. Once i closed the game and stopped capturing i had a total of 3 video files, one before i started the game, the second when i tabbed out of the game and the last one after i closed the game. Whats going on?

It is difficult to capture game play from the same PC you are recording on. That said, try using the Hot Keys to start/stop capture rather than tabbing through screens

 

Use them once you are IN the game, not before.
