Guest mlpasley
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6147984.stm Lynn Well, now we know what NOT to use WD-40 on. I have my own version of the banana story. The non technical person in my house put a cell phone in a lunch box and the juice from the fruit in the lunch ruined the phone. Beerman
Well, now we know what NOT to use WD-40 on. I have my own version of the banana story. The non technical person in my house put a cell phone in a lunch box and the juice from the fruit in the lunch ruined the phone. Yet, with all the back up programs on the market, no one is prepared. I'm amazed. Kind of expensive lesson with the lunch box. Not sure what company you have phones with but Sprint will give you a new phone every 2 years or, only pay half price every year. They don't mention that much in my area and you have to ask.

tbrewst
Speaking of ruined cell phones.I once decided to jump into a swimming pool in one of my more lucid moments.Unfortunately I forgot I had my cell on my belt.I almost had Verizon giving me a new phone until the salesperson opened it to transfer my data and saw that the little white dot had turned red (sign of moisture damage). At that point it cost me $50 for a new phone...lol

Verizon has the every 2 years package. Hmmm, I have to ask if it also offers the 1/2 price every year since sometime you want to change cell phone before the 2 years is up. lynn98109
One time before the Seattle Central Community College started charging per page (which meant you had to "release" the page), I grabbed a printout of something to turn in from the printer, and stapled it. Glancing thru it before handing it in, I discovered I'd picked up an extra page - a letter from someone apologizing for not having been in touch lately, but he'd been in a hurry to go to the bathroom, and in his haste had forgotten his cellphone which accidentally had fallen into the water and been ruined ... (OK, so I'm blowing somebody's private info, but I never did look at thename ) Lynn

You must have really been 'lucid'.
tbrewst
LOL...yeah it was after a couple pitchers of beer and a couple bottles of wine. Not only my phone, but my watch,my wallet and a couple other things. It was one of those moments that I tend to only remember when I need to confess about being a knucklehead sometimes... Guest mlpasley
Actually, I've had a cell phone drop into the toilet (clean water) and be fine once I gave it a couple of days to dry out. And I must correct myself....... the fruit juice didn't fry the circuitry, just the battery. The result was the same though since the battery cost as much as a new identical cell phone. The cell phone no longer lives in the lunch box.
gi7omy
On a slightly different note: I had a VCR in for repair at one stage - the son was a "computer tech" and had liberally applied degreasing solvent to all the motors - a 5 motor job and every one was frozen solid - how to really write off a VCR
The Highlander
If you have a look in the back of your cell phone were the battery is you will see a very small circle or square of litmus paper, this is how the service people know if you have drooped it in water or had it splashed, if this is red or green or in some cases blue , it means you have had it wet at some stage and they void the repair or even the warrentie.... learned that the hard way after i dropped my Mobile smart phone HTC PDA in the loo to... (dam them top pockets) should have used the belt clip. cost me $400 to replace the sod
