Roxio Creator Silver 10 Won't See DVD Drive

Recommended Posts

Trying to install Roxio Creator Silver 10 on our new computers that we are rolling out.   Software installs fine but the software is unable to see the DVD drive.  Yes it's a DVDRW in the computers.  Apparently we found out that the only way to see the DVD is to do a Run As Admin.   Unfortunately support told us to give everyone admin rights on their computers!  Yea that's not happening.

Has anyone experienced/seen this issue and know a workaround or fix?

Creator Silver is a Corel Volume Licensing product, a version of the Roxio Creator Enterprise software.

There's a Deployment Guide available HERE,  and other information and PDFs available HERE but you should be asking the VLP team rather than the user Board.

For questions or to request a quote, contact the Roxio Business Sales Team at vlp@roxio.com or 1-877-682-6735.

Thanks.  For fun I followed the directions for install using elevated command line.   And for whatever reason Roxio installed and we were able to see the DVD drives.   Not sure why that would make a difference as suppose to running normally via windows.    So tested on 4 machines good to go.   Attempted another 4 machines back in the same boat.  Can't see the DVD drive.  Software is not consistent.

Any other suggestions.  Cause support want's me to give my users admin rights on the computers.  NOT happening.

I've had several computers under Windows 10 which would not see the optical drive at all until I made this addition and restarted.

enum.bat

However I've never had my hands on Creator Silver so I don't know if the addition will solve your problem.  Best advice is still ask the VLP team - they handle your Creator Silver software.

In some machines Windows [8 or 10] won't enumerate optical drives properly, so they can't be seen.   Inserting a value in the CurrentControlSet of the Registry and restarting Windows fixes that.

Here's the contents of the batch file which can be cut and pasted back into notepad, (all one line)

reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

and here's the same thing as a registry file which can be saved as enum.reg and when the file is double-clicked will insert the same value by using Regedit.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0]
"EnumDevice1"=dword:00000001
