MYDVD Templates

Which MyDVD, the new one or the old one?  What version of the program do you have - a NXT version or an older version like Creator XX?

The answer is yes to your question depending on the answer to the above. Instead of making a new template, select one that you like and modify that.

edit: Never use your actual e-mail address on any forum or you will end up getting a lot of spam.

Thanks for the tip on the name... I have no idea how that happened but it’s been changed....

I did try editing a couple of templates but something always turns out not quite right.... some button will not change size or title won’t go exactly where it needs to go or something....

Yep... giving up on this software.  Don't need something I can't work with and being unable to manage this as needed is not worth the $$$.  And I don't find the font management existent at all.  Spent too many hours trying to deal with this with too many options out there to waste too much time on this.

Thanks to any and all who tried to help.  Good luck with it.

This may be to late for your needs. Its been quite a while since the question of being able to modify or change existing templates.

Check out this knowledge base article. maybe it will assist you.

Not too late - just too old.  Trying to make new templates for MyDVD pro that comes with TItanium 18.. This information apparently only works with the old Toast around about 7 or 8...   Doesn't seem relevant or accurate for this software.  But thanks for the info.

Here is what I read:

In order to make Toast DVD Menu styles you must have Adobe PhotoShop 8.x or higher installed on your MAC. The Menu styles support unique backgrounds at menu and sub-menu level, custom button sizes, shapes, numbers, and placement, and custom font types.

Each menu style is based on a multi-layer Photoshop file. To design a new menu style, simply edit the layers in the PSD file. The Toast compositing engine automatically generates the menus using the PSD file template and inserts the appropriate user entered text and button graphics at burn time.
Toast 8 and higher

  1. Choose the Video Menu option in Toast and then select DVD.
  • Click on the More button in the bottom left corner.
  • Click on the Menu tab in the widow.
  • Drag and drop any photo file onto the preview picture of the menu.

I am using toast 17.

My steps:

1.  Open toast

2. Select video

3. Under format select DVD video, HD DVD video, Blue ray video

4. Under options/video select DVD video if not already selected

5. Below menu style select customize

6. A window will open, either drag/drop the template you created in PS in the image area or click on select and go to where the file is located and select it.

7. That should allow you to use the customized menu.

Hope this helps

Bob

Thanks for the response.  It would appear that like MyDVD Pro, this just allows you to drop a static graphic on their skeleton and not do much else with it.  MyDVD PRo came with TItanium 18 (which I guess should have told me something).  I followed your guide in Toast 18, and I tried to use a dynamic graphic which it appeared to allow, but when the video was rendered, it was just a static picture.... and it did not allow me to really edit much of anything.  One of the reasons I gave up on MyDVD Pro, was that you could edit your their template somewhat (very elementary), but even then once you previewed the design (which apparently you can not do in Toast), when you went back to edit, everything was reset.... and your time wasted.  I'm getting ready to do a bunch of training videos for work (which have to be on DVD) and I have yet to find something that works.

I'm looking at a program called DVD Styler now and it appears to look promising but I'll see I guess.....

Again, thanks for the response.

My guess is that you have come across one of the limitations of toast. I have been using toast for many years. Over all these years there have been comments from users that they want much more freedom to create personally created menus rather than the ones provide by the app. Being able to have animations and much feature rich menus is what has been commented on. For what ever reasons, Roxio has not enabled that kind of feature. Hope you find an app that allows for that and includes the features in toast as well.

Thanks... The only complaint I have with the other package (DVD Styler) is that there is no real time preview... It allows me to use dynamic images, edit font, apply buttons, etc., and place anything anywhere.  It has a couple of bugs (just have to figure out how to use it).  The price is right $0 but the cost is not the issue.  I just need something that works.  I used to use Final Cut Studio with with DVD studio and you could do ANYTHING with that, but the new FC X is nothing compared to the old version.

I guess the rendering/preview thing is an issue thats true for Toast also.  MyDVD Pro will give a real time preview without rendering first, but it screws the layout up and you have to start over every-time unless you render/burn first, and then it's 50/50.  And the fonts stay with the original style regardless of the image you drop on it.

Think I'm sending this one back.... Not much use to me.  And I don't need to rip/record TV shows or any such thing.

But again, thanks for your time and effort.  It is a nice looking program, but not hefty enough for my use.

  • 2 months later...

I have TOAST 18 Pro. I want to customize the DVD Menu also. I can't find ANY tutorial on how to do it. Or, after exporing the interface, I only see VERY SMALL previews that I cannon change. When I went to myDVD Pro..... crashes each time I try to burn an .ISO file. Please DO NOT direct me to the article for Toast 8. Yikes. That is too old. Is there anyone to call at Roxio to talk about this with.... that know anything. Each time I file a question for help I get the same response... we'll email you in 24 hours. Terrible customer service. And the answers are always wrong. Is there anyone who can help?

I'm using Toast 17, but should be the same as Toast 18.

Try this.

1. Open Toast.

2.  Click on video tab in the top center.

3. Click on the options tab in the top right corner

4.  Select the format tab under format and select the format you want.

5.  Under menu style, select customize

6. Select the menu tab in the top center.

7. that will open a window that shows the image of an image.

8. Drag and drop the Photoshop image you want on top of the current image. That show show the image you want.

9. Be sure you type in the menu title you want. The default is my movie.

10.  Click OK which will bring you back to the main Toast window.

Proceed as usual. If this does not work Then contact tech support directly. Tech support does not monitor these support group posts.

Good luck.
