Citellus
Perhaps this has been covered, but my searching did not find it. I am new to this discussion group, but not to EZ-CD creator. I started with 2.5, had 3.0, maybe 4.0, definitely 5.0, and now 6.0. In earlier versions, I was able to copy and paste the project list into Word Perfect, where I kept records and track of my music. I also copied them into my label maker (I know Roxio has one, I prefer another). I cannot seem to do this with version 6.0. I have tried copying into Word and Word Perfect and into my label program. I have tried copying from the top window and from the project list. I have had no success - the "paste" is never highlighted on the Windows 'right click' I did change computers between EZ-CD 5.0 and 6.0 and am now using XP instead of 98 SE. I suppose that could be a problem. But surely there must be some way of extracting the project list. Any ideas? Thanks. Citellus
Brendon
Hello Citellus, Nope, I can't do it either. The programmers seem in this version to be using a different kind of interface from earlier versions of Easy CD Creator. If the interface is integrated with Windows Explorer then when you copy or cut text, a copy is loaded into the Windows Clipboard. From there you can paste it. In this version the information can be copied with a little fiddling, but is sent to a different buffer and can only be pasted into the lower pane of the Creator project. It shouldn't be this difficult. Unless there was an extremely good reason for it, this seems like an unwise design choice. However the designers don't talk to you and me. Ideas (inadequate though they might be): (1) You can copy and paste from Label Creator. Perhaps you could hook the text from there into your own label maker. (2) Screenclip, and feed the picture into an OCR program to try and get text from the picture - very complex and messy. (3) For a data disc, make the CD and then run a command window in your XP. [start > run > CMD ] Then log into the CD drive and issue the command "DIR x:\ >> C:\index.txt" (where x: is your CD drive). That will put the disc's directory into a text file on your C: drive, called index.txt which you can manipulate as needed.
Citellus
Thanks Brendon (I hope this goes where it is supposed to go; I seem to be doing something inappropriate by quoting myself)) I tried the OCR route and that took more time and effort than retyping everything. I briefly tried using the label creator without success, but since you indicate it might work, I'll try that some more. If that doesn't work, I'll try the DOS command approach. Would you happen to know if more recent versions allow the copy and paste? I never went beyond 6.0 because I do not do videos, or even DVDs. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I don't see a major reason in getting the latest stuff unless I have a use for it. I also know what you mean about the designers. Before I retired, I had a data base developed ofr my program. But the designers did not ask decent questions (hardly even talked to me; just to other data base folks) and the result was useless. Brendon
Well! I'm afraid that you can't cut and paste from version 9, either. V9 has several different applications depending on what sort of disc you're making. Music goes one way, and data go another. However there's no way I could get the jump on it to cut and paste elsewhere, for either data or music discs. Both source and destination panes stared blankly at me when I attempted to copy/cut the names. I couldn't get the text from Label Creator in that version, either. Bummer! I don't see any point in trying 7 and 8 at this time, because they both use the same sort of interface. I'll check next time I have them installed, but I don't expect there will be any difference. I tried digging around to see if there was any file which contained project lists, but I couldn't find one. Audio project lists used to be kept in the cdplayer.ini file back in Adaptec days, but they were taken from there and encrypted about the time of the Great CDDB wars so I suspect they remain encrypted now. An interesting side note, I tried version 6.6.0.6 of a certain German program which shall not be named and it behaves the same. Sorry I couldn't produce a better answer for you Citellus. Citellus
Thanks for trying Brendon. Perhaps I should see if I still have a copy of 5.0 to use when I want this feature. I appreciate your help. Best Regards Citellus
lynn98109
The earliest Version of ECDC 5 to work with WinXP is 5.1, and when SP2 is added to WinXP there is officially no support, altho some have coaxed it to run (see FREQUENT ANSWERS posted at the top of the Forum). I will leave it to Brendon whether LabelMaker can be installed as a stand-alone, but did want to give you that warning promptly lest you try installing ECDC 5.0 (unless you have the old computer around somewhere). Citellus
Thanks for the warning, Lynn. I cannot recall the timing accurately, but I think maybe I went to ECDC 6.0 when I went to Windows XP. I do have the old Windows 98SE disks and an old computer, but maybe this is getting more cumbersome than it is worth. Regards Citellus
