Videowave Creates Corrupt Audio Proxy Files

Just purchased NXT 7 Pro today at $50 off.

When in Videowave, as soon as you start editing any video (mp4, avi, mpg that is approximately 10 minutes long or longer), the sound gets really fuzzy and it is impossible to work with in preview, etc.  The preview audio in videowave is fine until you make one change (like splitting the file) then it becomes fuzzy.

The audio is good in an outputted file, just messed up within videowave.

The proxy audio files that get created in C:\Users\WINDOWSUSERACCOUNTNAME\AppData\Roaming\Roxio\EMC15\VideoUI\Proxy are corrupt.  If you try to play the created proxy .wav file, the audio is all messed up (it is relatively ok until around the 10 minute mark but then gets really bad the longer the audio file is)

I removed NXT7 and reinstalled NXT5 and videowave works as intended and the audio proxy files that get created are not longer corrupt.

So frustrating.  I've seen a few instances of this in the forums for NXT6.

The chat agent I was on said he's never experienced this before (of course), had me reinstall, rename a bunch of programdata and appdata folders, but that did absolutely nothing.

That is EXACTLY the problem I had with NXT 6.  I tried to get it addressed for months (no kidding).  The feigned ignorance by support is extremely frustrating and it is disgraceful that ROXIO hasn’t addressed the problem in the new version.  

I was tempted to buy a copy of NXT 7 to see if they fixed it.  You saved me a few bucks for sure!

Here is the kicker - I think they use ffmpeg to create the audio file.  It is likely just a simple matter of making sure ffmpeg uses the right settings.

I know ROXIO lurks on these forums under fake accounts.  This should get addressed pronto.

By the way - in NXT 6, the corruption will also appear in the final video.  I take it that the new version produces clear final videos?

I only tried exporting once and the audio was fine. I've since reinstalled NXT 5 until this gets resolved or I get my money back.

Someone removed the encryption 'DRM' otherwise Roxio software would not work with it at all!

Instead of worrying where his example came from - why don’t you attempt to resolve the defect in Videowave. What a worthless post.

I spent months trying to address this problem with my home vacation video. So, what causes the audio corruption?  Answer the question.

Calm down, and mind your manners please!   I don't know what you're used to, but attacks on a moderator will not be tolerated here.

The Gurus on this board are not employed or paid by Corel, but continually spend many hours of their own time without reward, trying to help you and other users of the software with problems that arise.     That said, we have been tasked as Moderators to make sure that this bulletin board is not used to assist people to break copyright laws, or behave in any way that would reflect back on Corel or make that company liable in law.   Moderator Cdanteek was acting within his brief when he pointed this out to Mud.

No,  we have no inside information.

You have struggled with your problem for several versions and at least 2 1/2 years.  Perhaps it is time to try another product from Corel  (Pinnacle or Video Studio) some have free trials.  If you have the same audio problems, then perhaps it is time to look at your computer/speakers/connections, etc.   There are dozens of other software programs out there-  perhaps one of those will be to your liking.  Don't forget that Microsoft has some built in programs also.

No - its not connections to the computer when the audio in the file is uncorrupted at the beginning and unintelligible a few minutes into the playback.

The problem is with Videowave.  Tech support confirmed that to me.  
 

I have used Roxio (now Corel) products for many years.  I like Creator. So, no, I’m not going away.  I refuse to believe that someone from Corel doesn’t lurk on the message boards to see what is going on.

I figure I need to remind readers what is happening - and to make sure this thread stays active.

In attempting to resolve this problem, I made it through to Level 2 technical support where they remotely accessed my computer.  They were at a loss to correct it.  Suggestions even included I use the "clean audio" function - to modify hardware vs software rendering, and included the old standby update drivers, etc.

I am able to replicate the problem on a Win 8.1 machine, Windows 10, and Windows 7.  All have the poor audio where the audio edited is greater than 15 or so minutes.  This occurs on differing hardware (one is my macbook on duel boot).

I had attempted so many fixes they had to reset my permitted number of installs.

After a great deal of work, I have managed to discover how the problem can be replicated and reviewed:

1) Change the Proxy Files location to an easy to get to folder so you can detect when the proxy files have completed rendering.

2) I delete all proxy files.

3) When a video file is first loaded - playback is fine.  (Rendering at this point will result in corrupt audio in the final result).

4) For every video edit, VideoWave creates an audio proxy file in the Proxy Files location.  When the proxy file is finished  I save the production - enter a new production, then reload the saved production.  This will then cause VideoWave to access the proxy file.  If you listen to the proxy file in a different program, like VLC, the audio is corrupted and distorted.

5) Once reloaded - the audio for the file beyond around 7-10 minutes is corrupted.

6) Even more interesting is that if I delete the proxy file and reload the production, the sound is fine - until the proxy file is created and the production reloaded.

7) Once reloaded the audio is once again corrupt.

There is something wrong in how Roxio VideoWave transcodes the audio portion of the video files improperly.  I believe the settings they pass to ffmpeg are incorrect, but are hardcoded into VideoWave.

I have used many different file formats and the result is the same.

What Roxio version did you first discover the videowave anomaly?

I have the exact same issue. I also purchased NXT7 hoping it would fix issues on NXT6, but NXT7 had NO improvements and same bugs.

Apparently Roxio no longer believes in quality control.

The problem has not been addressed.  I even wrote to Patrick Nichols (Corel CEO) in the hope it would get some attention.  Nothing.

 

Its funny, I check in every so often to see if the bug is fixed, only to see more complaints on the same issue.

Running NXT7 on Win8.1

I just tried to replicate your problem following the steps you outlined but I have no distortion in the audio. Everything works just fine.Used a 30 minute mp4m 1280x570 video file.

The created audio proxy file plays without distortion in several players.

i had the same problem when i tried to go from NXT5 to NXT6.

i'd like for Corel to take my money for NXT7 because I WANT TO UPGRADE but w/out this fixed, NXT7 is completely useless to me.

It’s really pretty disgraceful.  Corel/Roxio just doesn’t seem to care. All the “digital gurus” make excuses - but there is no denying there is a serious bug in Videowave.  As I have said in previous posts the “level 2” tech support admitted to me this is a common complaint.
