DVD for the Web

Alan8349

Question

Will Roxio 9 enable me to compress a 1gb dvd down to a reasonable size so it can be uploaded to the web so people can view it. I have Roxio 9 and this compresses it down to 250mb but it still stays at full screen when converted to avi file. Can I reduce the screen size to make it even smaller. If I upgrade to Roxio 9 will this do what I want or is there another product that would be better.

Thanks, Alan

Yes and no. You most likely can reduce it more but I can't say what the quality will look like. 1GB reduced 75% seems problematic to me but I've never tried it. You'll need to experiment with it a bit. I'm sure someone else more knowledgeable will have a better suggestion but again, what's it going to look like.

I assume that the bolded text is a typo on you have V8 or V7. All three will work. Try using VideoWave to convert the file to "wmv" at the lowest quality. You may not like what you see. You may also want to consider other video formats depending on what the web site allows. You might try posting the file on an e-mail file sharing program so that people could download it there.

Comment: Are you trying to put this on your web site or another site? Remember the problem may not be uploading but downloading if someone has a slow connection. Even a fast connection will take time. Click here and time the download for an example. It is standard wmv format (not small) and is one minute long..It took several minutes to upload it via a fast DSL line.
