Installation Issue- Old Version

Liz Needs Help

Question

I have an old version of Easy VHS to DVD3 Plus that I am trying to install on Windows XP.  The packaging says it's compatible.  I'm doing this for an elderly gentleman who wants to convert old family movies and he doesn't have another computer.

Once I enter the Product Key, I get a message "Can't connect to the internet.  Please check your connection and try again."  I've had no luck with support.  The computer is connected to the internet via Explorer and I have turned off anti virus and the firewall?

I'd really like to get this taken care of for him without forcing him to buy an updated computer which he probably won't need for anything else (he's an iPad guy).

It's trying to phone home to a Roxio Server and check the CD Key.

Make sure nothing is stopping it like firewalls or antivirus software.

I'm stumped.   I've turned off the firewall and uninstalled all the anti-virus programs I can find.  I'm not concerned with virus protection on this computer since it will most likely be used only to run this program.  Have I forgotten something about XP?

I wonder if your "old version" is so old that they have shut down the validation server at Roxio which checks the CD Key.    They have done that with some earlier versions of Roxio Creator which required online validation, and as a result those versions of Creator can no longer be validated or used.

If that's the case, the message "Can't connect to the internet " might be shown because the software can't find the server.

I was thinking the same thing, but why can't customer support just tell me that?  They keep sending links to articles referencing Windows 10.  Any idea if there's anything I can do to help this guy out?  Would there be a work around or do I have to find another program?  I need a simple program that can run on an older PC.
