slow burning DVD's

johnnyVDO

Question

I am running Creator 8 and trying to duplicate a DVD I made. Since I can't drag and drop my video_ts file from my hard drive, I have to copy a DVD's file in Sonic's proprietary format and then burn a DVD (disk image). I am using an NEC ND-3550A 16x with the latest drivers and

Verbatum 16x disks, but the burn is slow at about 1.5x. My Mac with Toast 6 burns at 16x using the dame disks! What gives?

There is a known glitch in Disc Copier V8 that doesn't allow it to access a VIDEO_TS folder on your HD.

James, could you elaborate on this known glitch! Again mine didn't seem to ship with it, or hasn't reared its ugly head yet.

and can't get the burning process going faster than 1.5x. Any ideas?

Your drive and IDE controller has to be in PIO mode. You have to re-enable DMA for the IDE channel.

Go here a good guide to reset DMA. http://forum.lgsoftwareinnovations.com/sho...light=dma+guide

CD: No I cannot, don't have V8 anymore, just v6, v7 & v9…

I am running on memory here (shaky at best), and I cannot recall if it was Disc Copier or Media Import that won't recognize files in a VIDEO_TS folder on the HD.

There are workarounds and no secret Sonic Format' exists so it is merely an irritant.

Something came up about this before (Disc Copier) and Ivanrox suggested using the RecordNow – Copy to do the job.

OP hasn't been back yet, but you PIO suggestion looks like some good info for him.

Johnny: I put these posts together in the same thread and deleted another. You seem to be posting what is essentially the same question all over the boards and that is not appreciated.

There is a known glitch in Disc Copier V8 that doesn't allow it to access a VIDEO_TS folder on your HD. The product is no longer in production, so it isn't going to be fixed.

The easiest solution is to use Sonic RecordNow to copy it.

If you can't get RecordNow to do it post back and I will outline a way to do it with Classic.

You drive speed problem sounds like a problem between your drive and the media you are using. Check and apply any firmware updates for the drive and it should go away.

I read your post. After hyjacking someone else's thread, all you posted was that you could no longer write to -R after upgrading. I can't reproduce your problem. I make copies of home DVDs from video_ts folders and it never tries to compress them even with -R media.. Start a new thread and perhaps someone else will have some suggestions.

GG,

I have Toast on my Mac, and when I want to make a copy of a DVD I've made, I copy the video_ts file from the DVD to the hard drive, then just drag it into the Toast window and it makes a new DVD, FAST! I now have EMC8 on my XP SP2 PC, use the same disks (verbatim 16x) and can't get the burning process going faster than 1.5x. Any ideas?

Also, is there a easy way to drag a video_ts file into a burn window and have EMC8 just create a duplicate DVD? Right now, I have to insert a DVD and then extract the video_ts file thru EMC8 then burn the file to a blank DVD (at 1.5x speed). Why can't I just drag a video_ts file from my PC hard drive and have it make a DVD?

Thanks, guru.
