Convert .gi file to MP4?

I was sent a video that was created in an earlier version of Roxio Creator (I believe it was created in v5 or v6.) The video has a .gi file extension. I cannot watch the video using Windows Media Player or VLC. I need to convert this video to a format that I can then burn to a CD/DVD and watch on a computer or TV using a DVD player. Every software I've tried so far cannot convert this file. Any suggestions? will a newer version of Roxio recognize this fie and allow me to convert it to MP4 or some other format that I can watch on a TV using a DVD player?  I've already tried just cahnging the extension and that didn't work

That .gi file is not a video file but an image file ( possibly of a DVD) and thus cannot be played by any video player. If it was created in V5 or V6 then you should be able to burn it directly to a DVD using  V5 or V6 pr V7 or V8.

Another program that can burn to CD or DVD is Imgburn.  Google for ".gi" or Imgburn for more information

Thank you for your response.  Either, ImgBurn does not work on this file or, I don't understand how to use Imgburn.  I've tried "Write" and "Build" and neither works...

I need to be able to convert the .GI file to MP4 or some other format and then burn to disc so I can either, play the video on a Windows computers CD/DVD player and/or, play the DVD in an older DVD player hooked to a TV.  Thanks

Hi Pitbullfan01,

Not knowing what sort of disc your .GI file is an image of, I can't tell you how to convert the unknown contents to MP4 I'm afraid.   Here is how Imgburn behaved with a little sample data disc image I made long ago with Easy Media Creator 10.

-I usually have .GI files set to run with ImgBurn if I double-click the file.   If you don't, then run ImgBurn and use the button at the top with the magnifying glass icon to browse for, and load your .GI file.

-Then, with a suitably-sized disc in the drive, click the green arrow near the bottom.  The disc will be burned, and you can see the contents through File Explorer in the usual way.  Mine was a little data disc.  Audio CD or video DVD will look a little different.

If your ImgBurn isn't working like this, would you please tell me [1] what sort of disc the .GI file was made with, and [2] What are you seeing when you try the process I described?

If you are on a mac you can use handbrake to convert to .mp4 without burning a dvd. Just use the .gi file as the source.
