Playstation 3

Have you seen the nuts on Ebay selling Playstation 3's for over $2500? Well, the nuts are the buyers. I heard a story today that a young man in Dallas is paying friends $100 each to each get 1 Playstation 3 which he then sells on eBay. He supposedly has a rather large college bill due and needs to come up with $5000 quick and that's how he's doing it.

We have people camped in tents outside Best Buy and Circuit City stores in order to get the few that are coming in on Friday. Many are college kids.

However, Ebay has now put restrictions on those selling them. Seems you've got to be a regular seller with a good sales history.

Interesting. When I was in college, kids gave blood to make a few dollars. :)

This kid I was told about has made a good living selling games for a good while. I'm sure he'd be listed as 'good'.

I read stories this morning about people standing in line for days just to be able to get one.I also read a story about a place in Connecticut where a couple thieves knew the people in line would have wads of cash and robbed them, even shot one guy who wouldn't give up his money.

And another TV news item last night shwed a couple of guys in line that got in a fight as to who was ahead of who and both ended up in the hospital. On another news item however there was a small boy that had save dhis money for a long time and had been waiting in line for a day or so just to get one and his number happened to be just after the last number that would get one, So the three guys just ahead of him in line gave him their number. They showed the kid on TV and boy, was this a great sight. He was so happy he was crying. I guessed him to be 10 or 12 years old.

To me all this shows is how crazy some people are just to get a new toy !!! Wait till after Christmas and they will probably be hundreds of them on the shelves. Some time ago, and just before Christmas, I can remember a "Cabbage Head" doll that was having people go crazy like this new Play Station3.

Frank...How's that old saying go ? "Worshiping at the crass of mass commercialism"

The PS3 line ups in this area were crazy, some people lined up for 4-5 days.

Shrug, I'm getting myself a Wii tomorrow morning though and be enjoying Zelda tomorrow. :)

I've seen Wii and would love to meet the team that worked on this thing. What a job! Could also be the answer to getting rid of the couch potato problem.

Thanks for sharing the story about the three men giving the kid their ticket. They really showed the spirit of the season!

I had a friend call me yesterday and say "Go online for me and get me a PS3 will ya?".I haven't stopped laughing yet.

I bet he was not amused at your amusement. :)

As to the eBay sales . . . couldn't eBay put an end to the insanity by forbidding the sale of PS3 till after the holidays at least??

In my biased opinion, eBay is part of the insanity - in their quest to get more customers buying more expensive things, it's like they have nailed a 1x12 over the door, and when that didn't work, they nailed another 1x12 over the door, etc.

As they put in more "media-rich" features, they are getting rid of their Value Village customers; whether they will get the designer botique crowd they imagine, I don't know.

Second quarter income for North America auctions was down. Third quarter income for North America auctions was not broken out separately in info released to the media.

I'm awaiting the 4th quarter results. Hey - eBay needs more PlayStation 3 sales, don't they? (I can't even use search with the Win98 SE; I boot the Beast (WinXP SP2) once a day to check what's going on.)

It's called economics, they are a business. If there are brain dead folks willing to pay $6,000.00 for a $600.00 Play Station 3 fine!

I'm a eBay stock holder, have been for a long , long, time.

I watch my wife search on eBay at least two hours a day. That's on a W98SE machine, it is on cable not dialup. Maybe that helps but it works fine.

Yes, it's dialup. It's also AMD K6-2 400MHz.

The Beast (WinXP SP2) is because when I was trying to upgrade to a larger Hard Drive (it was 4GB), it hadn't been turned off manually for so long (well, they scare you if you do) that it wouldn't boot. So I got the Beast, but my Beloved was restored, and continues to run 24/7. If it weren't for eBay I'd turn the Beast on more like weekly than daily, and after about an hour or less, it gets turned off, noisy fans and all.
