How does this work?

Question

Just bought this "Easy (?) CD & DVD burning2" program, and it must be the most confusing one I ever tried to use just wanting to burn a simple DVD.

No comparison to Nero I had in the past 👎

Hi Nappo,

Easy CD & DVD Burning 2 is a cut-down, low-priced, version of Creator NXT.    If it doesn't suit your needs and you bought it directly from Roxio, you can invoke their guarantee and return it for a refund within their 30-day time limit.

However, if you didn't buy it direct or you choose to persist with trying to make it work for you, please tell me what you are trying to do and where you're running into trouble.   I'll try to help you.

regards, Brendon

Hi Brandon, you are fast, thank you. I just finished a long Newfoundland travel video, in 3 parts. I find the templates alright, but am confused about this darn ROOT MENU. The actual title of my video should go there, but have no idea, because all I can do with this ROOT tab is move it around. What is this Root tab supposed to do? Sc-use my stupidity, haha

Also, the program does not seem to conform to the screen on my 14 in. Lenovo, the bottom tabs I did not see at first in the beginning. What is your favourite DVD burning program?

Thank you :-)

Hi Nappo,

I haven't done much DVD authoring for a while, and it will take some time for me to clear the decks and go fiddle with the software to get you an answer.   Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with a solution - but in the meantime if anyone else has an immediate answer, please feel free to jump in and help Nappo.

Re the bottom tabs being cut off in your display:  Your Windows should have a setting where you can change the screen size of your icons and text and 'other items'.  In Windows 10 it looks like this display.jpg.38eb1c597879351d9dbf802a1caa6d62.jpgif you're using a different version I can tell you where to find it.

The essential thing is that 'Scale and Layout' setting.  Since Roxio apps are 'other items', that figure controls their screen size.   If it goes over 100% you may cut the bottom and/or right side of the application.  I recommend you set it back to 100%.   If it's at 100% you should see all of the Roxio programs.

My favourite DVD authoring program  is the older Roxio version of MyDVD.    A Corel program replaced it some years ago, and we were saddened.

This should all be in its own topic, instead of on the end of another topic.  I'll get it shifted.                  Back tomorrow  :)

Thanks for all your effort Brandon.

I will get back to my issues and play some more with this Roxio tomorrow. For now I have to make sure my car will start as its been colder than minus 20c., something you probably only see on TV, lucky guy 😇. And that's not too good for a diesel parked outside 😣

But I appreciate your time very much!!

Cheers, Nappo

Hi Nappo,

How did you get on with that screen scaling issue?  Was your scaling percentage set to other than 100%?

Now, the renaming of menu items. I think I've solved it.   Near the top right corner of each menu item is a little text-type icon. (see picture)  If you click that icon you'll get a dialog box with three options.    Select 'Rename' and you can rename that menu.    I tried it out, and it does work for me.   Please let us know how that goes.

It would be very helpful to have a PDF manual like Roxio used to supply in the good old days. :)

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for sticking with this. Just got back on and am trying to create a new DVD. My display was set (and always has been) to 150%, which it says is recommended. Setting it to 100% makes everything so small, almost need a magnifying glass to read. So I put it back to 150, which on my 14 in. Pc. seems just right.  What I miss is just a little plain and simple logic in this program.

For example, I managed to have the actual video (Mp4) files loaded, on whatever background I selected, and even did as you said to change the name. By accident file # 3 went in twice, but no way to delete or remove it now. There don't seem to be any way to do or change things no matter if left or right clicking on things.  Once something is in place, it cant be changed. And the weirdest, now that the files are in, I don't see any button to start burning. Now I know why that program has been on special and cost just 20 bucks.

But please don't waste your time on this silly issue, I have sent an email to Roxio asking for some info, let's see what I may (or may not) get. But I appreciate your effort!

Thank's Brandon,

Hello Nappo, this is BRENDON.  I am in New Zealand.   Brandon is a name that seems to be popular in the country south of your border, but not here.   :)

Now, to your problems.  When you start MyDVD you should see a display something like this: 435211195_1start.jpg.808705c837f7beea80409092c2ecb9ac.jpg

Removing File #3  There should be a box for any intro video you want, then the Root menu, then four boxes for content.  If you don't see the four content boxes, click on the chevron I've indicated by a red box, and they'll appear unless your 150% cuts them off.   Drag your content into those boxes, and if you get one too many or want to remove one just click on the little text icon at top right of the box and select 'Remove'.    You can't manipulate Contents from the picture of the Root Menu, you have to work on the content boxes.

The Box You Can't Fill  That box is used by the menu, not you.   When your DVD is playing, the menu plays a few seconds of each content video over and over again until you select to play a particular one.

I think the full version of Creator NXT 7 that Easy CD & DVD Burning 2 is cut from has tutorials.   Probably the best thing you can do at this point is to keep experimenting with it, and asking questions when you get stuck.    Remember you can Save your project to an ISO image and play it in the free VLC player or one of the other players, to save wasting plastic DVDs each time you make a change.

Anything further I can maybe help with?

Brendon

Hello Brandon, you are far away from cold and snow, lucky guy, I never been to your country (yet).

Anyway, you are too kind trying to make sense of things that Roxio sure does not, haha. In the meantime, I actually did manage to burn a DVD, but via the most complex and no sense way.

Am attaching 2 images, one of the total screen I can see, where I can add the 3 video files, and another one showing that tiny and half-hidden burning window that's peeking out on the bottom right. What also confused me is when they ask to add "Titles". To me, Titles are written words, not the file I want to use as much as a video can be called 'title'. But for clarity, I think calling it the desired file would make more sense (to me). Guess my mind shuts down when things that would make sense are missing.

So, I guess sloooowly I am making my way through this mind-maze, haha. A friend gave me the older Verson 6 of "Roxio Easy CD & DVD CREATOR", do you think there is any use in trying to install it into Win 10? It may only be of limited use I guess, being an old version, and upgrades of course come with a price.

Thanks again for trying so hard ...

PS: Look what you are missing, 😄

Nappo, this is Brendon.

First, the application down the bottom right of your screen is a stand-alone app called Roxio Burn.   It is mostly used for burning data CDs and DVDs, and has nothing to do with the DVD authoring software (MyDVD) that you're using.    I don't even bother installing it on my machines.

Second, icons at the top right of MyDVD.   The triangular 'Play' icon plays a preview of your DVD.  The floppy disk icon saves it to an ISO file, which I mentioned above.    It can be played to check how your DVD will turn out, or it can be stored in case you later want to burn more copies.   The flame icon burns your project to a DVD.   You do need to have those three icons accessible at all times, as they are key controls.  You may need to consider a larger screen, or at least a magnifying glass.

Third, 'titles'.   This is a widespread use of the word, and you would have to take it up with the industry if you want change.  Good luck with that. :)

Fourth, Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 came out in 2003.  Sometimes a nurse wheels it around in a wheelchair at Remembrance Day parades, but it won't run under Windows 10.

Fifth, I have snow covered mountains I can see from inside my warm house during winter.  Respectfully, that is where snow belongs.  LOL

Regards, Brendon (with an 'E')

Hello Brendon,

Sorry for the misspelling, and thanks again for your detailed info. Actually, I may just use that stand-alone for the time being, as I really just wanted a program to burn DVD's to show to my friend. She has a nice big 56" TV, but it is wall mounted and no access to the ports in the back to insert a memory stick like I always use to watch on my TV. And I find it easier than having to get out a DVD and have a DVD player as well, and no chance to scratch the DVD in the process.

Yes, it seems a bit of a problem to always see those 3 icons on top of my 14" laptop. But its a great machine and I will accept that in exchange for being able to read things big enough and without a magnifying glass by using that stand-alone for now. After all, I mainly make a disc for special occasion like mentioned.

Perhaps DVD's may eventually go the way of 8-tracks 🙂

But for now there is a bigger problem in the neighbourhood with a broken water main, but my pots are filled 🙂.

Enjoy the scenery from afar, mine is too close for comfort 🙄

Cheers and regards, Nappo
