Have you tried a system restore point before the install? While in safe mode go to start run type in msconfig, choose selective startup and then the startup tab uncheck any easy cd 5 platinum or direct cd items you see, close and reboot. Will it boot up into selective startup?

If it will try to uninstall.

Hi again! I did a deep search on google & after browsing dozens of pages... i came across a tool that enables the windows installer in safe mode..... i was then able to uninstall easy cd & the computer booted fine! thanks for all your help & concern

Well i did the same - insstead of going into safe mode pick up the option - previous working XP option - if I'm right this will return you safely to windows - uninstall the program in control panel/add.remove programs. essentially if you have been updating winsows on a regular basis as i have your version of windows is now incompataable which contravens the sales claims pitch of running in MS XP. How we stand legally when this is a USA company and they do not have telephone/email support in the UK leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of not using Roxio again as their claims are untrue....;
