VideoWave - DVD BUilder - IE7 (Critical update)

Gator777

Question

Its a known fact that emc 7/7.5 does not work when IE7 is installed.

Roxio's solution is to revert back to IE6, and all is fine. <--- wrong answer, and here is why...

IE7 is not an "optional" cool download from Microsoft anymore, but rather a "Critical Update" now for the security of the XP Operating system. When users "Auto-update" from Microsoft, they will automatically be required to have IE7 installed to their system, because Microsoft said it will keep your PC secure.

Roxio, apparently doesn't want to fix this issue for emc 7/7.5 customers, so users are now left with no choice but to purchase an updated version that will be compatible with IE7 (e.g. emc 9). Profits are being placed ahead of your system security, and customer satisfaction. I would advise anyone to find another company that supports and protects their customers, no matter what version they are using.

I was a big fan over the years, ever since the company was called "Adaptec", and have upgraded numerous times. This time, I bought 7.5 a little over a year ago, and now it is obsolete. I have not burned disk 1 yet because I have been busy with life matters, but now I am ready. The only problem now is that I cannot use my software. I must decide whether or not to make DVD's and risk the security of my system, or stop using this flawed software and keep my system secure.

I'm presently looking at other vendors such as Adobe, Pinnacle, and Ulead now to replace my Roxio crap.

Roxio has lost a long-time customer today. I know my single purchase won't matter a hoot to Roxio, one way or the other, but in time their unfair business practice will catch up with them, and they start to see their profits diminish. Maybe then, they will wake up and start caring about their customers.

they are aware of companys who don't support their products, well, kind of like Roxio.

Roxio does support their products. The Version 9 that was released this year works with IE 7.

I think you may be missing my point. Microsoft felt it important to include IE7 in their XP OS, because they felt its a vast improvement from the known security issues with IE6. At least Microsoft gave uers a tool that helped them regress their OS, if needed, and because they are aware of companys who don't support their products, well, kind of like Roxio.

I'm already trying various other products to take its place like Adobe Premiere, which seems pretty cool so far. Thanks for all you input, and good luck to you all.

Don't let the door......

In my humble opinion, that sort of thinking is just plain silly.

The product (EMC V7) has been out of production since 10/05, when V8 came out. V9 came out 9/06, so you are nursing an out of production and are currently 3 versions out of date!

V8 and V9 are unaffected by MS and the IE7 is not a mandatory update.

But the choice is yours…

My 4 PCs run Win98SE, XP SP0, XP SP1 and XP SP2. They run 24/7 on DSL and only one of them has AV installed. If you practice safe surfing, the security risks are somewhat exaggerated…

That's true. Microsoft does say that it's a Critical Update. However, there is an option in Windows Automatic Update to let you know when updates are available, but not download them. Then you can choose which update to install.

Microsoft also says that their tool to validate whether you have a valid copy of XP on your computer is a Critical Update. Just ask the users who had their systems crash when their validation tool said that their valid copy was invalid how they feel about Critical Updates.

I'd be interested to know if the other companies you've mentioned have updates for previous versions. That would be the only fair comparison as to support.

:) Sadly IE7 incompatibility isn't the only issue I've found. Also had to uninstall IE7 to use DVD Builder 7.1 again BUT find major lockups now after having upgraded Microsoft Media Player to version 10; all my Roxio MPEG-2 Decoders (DVD Decoders) are now red 'X' incompatible with it. When I attempt to add .mpg files, lock up and lock out.... Hate it!

Purchased V.8 from Roxio/Sonic when it first came out.... hate it! Prefer the entire process and interface of V.7 and find it ideal for our purposes.

Now...... HOW CAN WE GET ROXIO/SONIC and Microsoft to create patches that allow us to use our

Easy Media Creator Suites with added security and functionality so we can use them with

IE7/Vista AND current version of MS Media Players 10 and 11.

Do your believe everything MS tells you? :) I prefer to keep EMC 7.5 instead of installing the flawed IE7

I bypassed the IE 7 update without any problem and am continuing to run IE6.

I'll double what Walt had to offer. Keep EMC 7.5, even though you have been told it is way out of date, and you think it's "obsolete". 7.5 as far as I'm concerned was and still is one of the best versions Roxio has. I still use it and I don't have IE7 on any of my computers and it's far from being obsolete !! . Granted the newest version (EMC 9) has some really good added features, but for producing, editing and burning DVD's, 7.5 is just as good.

If you have to have IE7, then by all means get the newer version 9 and you will have no problems.

I am not a computer guru, but I, too, have come to the same conclusion about Roxio wanting more money from you. If you buy another program, will my old dsms files load?

Although MS have called the update 'critical' it does make one wonder why they made a tool available to disable it coming in as a critical update.

It mustn't be THAT critical if they actually give you stuff to stop it being installed

Hmm - the fact that IE7 was found to have at least THREE major security flaws inside a matter of days and that it wouldn't work with quite a few websites would have had nothing to do with that?

The point is that MS pushed out a program which a lot of people simply didn't WANT (there are better browsers out there) but they insisated it HAD to be installed. The result was quite a few broken apps (and not just Roxio ones). We're in a similar situation to SP2 for XP when that came out - that also broke existing apps but Redmond just brushed that aside - the final version was released without ANY testing being done on several critical apps (the betas didn't have the problem but no-one had a chance to try the release version first - and by then it was too late)

Actually - the whole affair is a bit like saying 'I installed a new cooker in my house - and all my lights fused. That has to be the fault of the lighting circuit"

My advanced math tells me that 10/05 is ONE year ago. And that's 2 versions out of date, not 3. That's crappy support and greed. NERO, here I come. btw, I started with EMC 5, upgradeed to 7.0 and then 7.5. You have enough of my money.

There are and have allways been too many fanboys in these forums.

Of course there are too many 'fanboys' in these forums. If we didn't like the product, we wouldn't hang out here trying to help people.
