Nov/06 MS Update - Problems with Roxio

cecwin@mnsi.net

Question

Starting this week after the monthly MS updates, if you have Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 installed put a blank cd or dvd in your burner and open up My Computer. First, it shows the Total Size and Free Space. For a blank cd or dvd it should not show any values in these two columns. Next, you will see that Free space is substantially less than what is in under Total Size (for a blank cd or dvd it should be the same). next, using Roxio, if you try to burn say a data set, for example files totaling 558 mb's (in one of the many tests here), you will require two cd's instead of one.

Now if I uninstall Roxio, the problem goes away. Install it back in, problem is there again.

I contacted Roxio Technical Support about this problem that suddenly showed up this week. They were able to duplicate it on their own pc's. We uninstalled Drag & Drop on my pc and the My Computer still showed values for Total Size and for Free Space, but now they were the full amount (again, for a blank cd or dvd, nothing should be showed). Trying to burn to the cd, again the same problem -- where one cd should have been suffice, two were flagged as needed.

Now given the circumstances here, the only thing that has changed on the computers involved was, the MS updates. Yes, the full version of IE7 is running here, but all was working just fine before Tuesday's updates. Hopefully a patch will be forthcoming.

cecwin,

Have you been able to resolve this problem. I have a similar problem as well after upgrading my EMC 7.0 to 9.0. After installing EMC 9.0, the usual blank DVD (Verbatim DVD+R 16x) now only registered as having only 4.07 free disc space when I used to be able to burn up to 4.38G. It is in UDF 2.0 format. My laptop has my old EMC 7.0 version and it showed 4.38G free space with CDUDF format. I would appreciate any help on this. I am inclined to remove the EMC 9.0 and reinstall EMC 7.0. Thank you in advance.

My computer: Dell D4600, Win XP home, 1G RAM, P4 2.66G with NEC ND3520A DVD burner firmware 3.07

Your problem showed up after installing the MS updates?

Granpabruce,

No, my problem started when I removed my EMC 7.0 and installed EMC 9.0. However, I regularly update my MS OS via MS updates. Any suggestions aside from removing 9.0 and reinstalling 7.0? From reading the original thread here, apparently it is a bug associated w/ recent MS update and Roxio 9.0.

Thanks!

I would bet that MS will get right on it. Not, unfortunately.
