Problem Copying DVDs

Robert Finley

Question

I need to make some copies of a DVD and recently bought an LG external DVD drive for my Lenovo Thinkpad computer and downloaded the Roxio Easy CD/DVD Burning 2 software. I am finding that when I put the DVD I am copying into the drive, it copies the data on the disk OK, but when I put a blank DVD in nothing happens apart from hearing it spin for a few seconds. I get the message saying "Please insert a blank DVD into the drive" and when I click OK it ejects it and repeats the message asking me to insert a blank DVD. It doesn't copy the files onto the blank DVD.

Please could someone suggest what might be the problem and a possible solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Robert

Hi Robert,

It seems as if your computer is not seeing a signal from your drive reporting that it has a suitable blank disc and is ready to write.

There are a host of things that can cause that, but could you give us some information to narrow down the choice a bit, please?

-Your operating system
-the version of your software [On the Home menu go to top left Help > About this software. You should be shown something like this.   What's the version number?]

-Model of your LG external drive
-If you go back to the Home menu top left and select Tools, then Get Disc Info with your blank disc in the drive, does Get Disc Info tell you anything about the disc?  What does it say?
-Does the Copy Disc menu show your external drive in the two boxes I've outlined in red?

Thanks for your answers,

Hello Brendon. Thank you very much for your quick reply. Here are the answers to your questions:

Lenovo Operating System is Windows 11 Home

LG Drive model number SP80NB80

Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning 2 software version 20.0.54; 5.0.0.0   Build 202B54A, ECD; 200B60A, ECD

Copy Disc Information: HL-DT-ST-DVDRW DL (D)  shown in both boxes (copy from, copy to) with a blank DVD in the LG Drive

The System Requirements shown on the box of the LG drive show Windows 10/8.1/8/7 and the CPU  a Pentium IV (2.4 GHz). The Lenovo CPU is an Intel Core i5 10210U @1.6 GHz 2.11 GHz.

I have been able to copy a DVD made by someone else to the blank DVD and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the DVD I'm trying to copy from. The software used to make that DVD (in 2010) was the Corel Video Studio. In the past I was able to make copies of that DVD, but now all that happens is the data is copied by the software and is not transferred to the blank DVD. Nothing further happens except when I click on "Please Insert a Blank DVD" it ejects it. Thank you very much for your help. Robert

What do you mean by " the data is copied by the software"?

If all you want to do is make a copy of the DVD then use the program IMGburn (it is free)

First copy the Video_TS folder from the DVD to your hard drive and the burn the Video_TS folder to your DVD.

Since you have a RW drive why not use RW DVDs?

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your reply with the requested information.

Sorry, but it seems that this software is NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows 11.     Easy CD & DVD Burning 2 is a cut-down version of Creator NXT 7, which was released in 2019 almost 3 years ago, and NXT 7 is not compatible with Windows 11.

Please see this thread in the NXT 7  forum.  There are other similar threads.

If you purchased your software directly from Roxio within the last month, you should contact them immediately and invoke their 30-day money back guarantee before you run out of time.

Regards, Brendon
