XML load failure

whitewater

Question

Top O' The Morning to Anyone!

Would someone help me solve this, possibly, small problem????? YAH-RIGHT! I've been calling SONIC, ROXIO and of course - no answers and I have also chated with ROXANNE.

I've had Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 for about 8 or 9 months. I used it for creating approximately 25 slideshows of "old" family gatherings over the past 20 years or so with audio background.

While e-mailing photos, my system stalled and would not stop, halt, or respond to anything. I gave it 45 minutes to send 42 photos and it was still sending. It just stalled and I had to shut down and F10 my computer and do a partial system restore. NOT a "total restore." It's a restore procedure that saves all of your files, which after completing the restoration, I reinstalled Creator 8 and did find some of my saved productions in MyDVD Albums.

My problem is that when I try to open some (not all) of them an error msg pops up saying "XML load failure." I even recently created another slideshow production, saved and burned it and it also won't open when I try to modify the production.

I spoke with "Roxanne", but of course if you don't know the exact wording, you're just "out of luck." Under the "Album" icon, when I click on it, are pages all with a red circle in the center of it and within the circle is a red line across it, which I'm assuming means ERROR, ERROR, will not open. That's when the "XML load failure" error pops up after I double-click on the file.

Can anyone help me even a little bit. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I've worked with computers and software of all kinds for over 30 years. This program is very difficult to nagivate through, but with more errors and research and experience correcting boo-boos, I shall persevere.

Other than this problem I LOVE my finished productions and so do the family members sharing them with me.

Thanks for responding

Wow, that's a first for that error message with V8. :huh:There was an XML error that sometimes appeared when users tried to update V7. Do you have V7 on your computer in additions to V8? I saw several knowledge base articles if I typed in XML. Do any of them fit?

As you probably did, I did a Google search for that error and didn't come up with anything useful. If we ignore the error message and just go by the red circle, here may be something that MIGHT help.

The problems "might" be that your media manager database has become corrupted. Grandpabruce (and Roxio) has a fix for that:

4. Rename the existing Media Manager database

a. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications

b. Open 'my computer'

c. Double click on the 'C:' drive and browse to 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio' where 'USERNAME' is the name of the user you are currently logged in as.

d. Right click on the 'MediaManager' folder and choose rename

e. Call the folder 'MediaManager.old'

f. Now try launching the Easy Media Creator Home or Media Manager

Because of that XML error, I thank that more of your computer is trashed than just this. You might try a complete and clean reinstall of your program. Backup your projects to another folder just in case. You can use Microsoft's Uninstaller Clean up utility or search these boards for the registry entries that need to be removed after you use the Windows Add/remove software utility.

Keep us up to date on your progress; other people will read this and perhaps, it will spark a memory. :)
