Need more feedback for Slideshows

mentor

Question

Similar to other posted topics regarding a slideshow project in MyDVD.

1) I created the slideshow and applied about 80 .jpeg images.

2) I added 4 songs as backing audio for the slideshow

3) The slideshow previews perfect on the pc.

4) I burned the project to a dvd -R disc using the options to burn to disc(not .iso)

ISSUES

a) like others, when I attempt to play on the home player, the image quality is terrible(blocky, transitions will cause overlay of previous image, terrible resolution, choppy sound).

:) alot of topic responses mention to burn/copy as a .iso image to the DVD; but there is no explaination why to use this method. Can someone elaborate on WHY the .iso method is a recommended alternative?

(ie. why is a copied image .iso different/better than what the "burn" with default settings does?

c) Can things like disc manufacturer make a difference(did this on a Memorex dvd -r), also what are the optimal project properties I should experiment with? I think I had the standard "best", "interlaced", etc.

d) Lastly, by all the posts, you would think the slideshow Mydvd tool never really works --------- can anyone respond and tell me if they just did what I did and get great results on their home player without all the "tweaks"?

Burning to an iso file and then copying that iso to a DVD blank seems to work better because it separate the encoding which stresses your CPU from the burning process. You computer is not trying to do two different things at once. If you make the iso file, you can preview it in Disc Copier. If it is OK, then you have narrowed it down to the burn issue. If there are problems with the preview, post back what you see for recommended fixes.

Yes, disc manufacturer can make a big difference. You brand is far from the best. Look at your burner manufacturer's web site to see what they recommend. You may want to see if there is updated firmware for your burner. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly or you may create a small door stop. Burning at lower than maximum speeds often helps also.

The Slide Show Assistant in My DVD is just that, it has limited functionality and many people have had problems with it. Use VideoWave to create your slide show. If you must use and Assistant, use the one under Photo heading. It is a three step process that allows you to do the final editing in VideoWave should you chose to.

Ok, for those of you repeatedly fighting with the slideshow burns, I can give good followup comments regarding the original posted issues.(see above).

1) I purchased higher quality DVD's (Sony versus the Memorex); not validated that this was a critical issue but just taking advice of others comments.

2) From MyDVD project, I did click "Burn" but chose to save to an .ISO image file on my hard drive.(just browse to desired HD location and provide a filename for the .ISO).

3) In DVDCopier or CDCopier application, browse to the source .ISO file you have saved and select your target to be the DVD drive containing your blank(sony :)) disc.

4) I used a DVD -R type disc and the project launched fine on my 2005 basic JVC player; clear resolution, adequate transitions, and good backing audio songs. *there was one picture(chapter) that did seem to transition on top of another image but all other 69 pics displayed very good.

5) p.s. - someone also earlier recommended not running any multi-tasked other apps. and also to disconnect from internet , so I did this as well but cannot verify it truely added value.

good luck all
