FrustratedUser
I just recently purchased Easy CD & DVD Burning. The Creator Classic component will not recognize my drives. I am running two NEC DVD-RW ND-3550A drives. I tried to use the Support web page with no luck. The Support website is broken. There is an error message saying Roxio has let their liscense expire for PHPLive. When I try to use Ask Roxanne, I am sent into an infinite loop on the first question. Please help. I started to read and tried to post in a similar thread below but it is locked.

(Last software update 2003.) The earliest program to recognize DVD-DL is EMC 7.1 (assuming you have at least WinXP SP1 or Win2000 SP4, and the other system requirements). It is possible for a really new burner to be recognized as "generic burner", but apparently in this case it isn't happening. Lynn

james_hardin
The thread was locked because it had turned into chess game of semantics. However that does not prevent you from viewing it! You cannot post to it, but there is good info in there that you need to read. The only problem V6 will have with burners is recognizing Old ones. All new burners will be recognized through the dynamic drive detection which was first introduced in V6. Having said that, DL and Blue Ray media is not burnable with V6, but all others can be burned. XP is often the usual culprit in these matters. Installing and removing any burning software will often upset it. This may be the first time you have seen it, but it started the day XP was introduced.
FrustratedUser
Well, I am just trying to burn my photos to Memorex DVD+R media. That was the sole reason for purchase, to back up our pictures. I was able to use the DragtoDisc utility, but it dropped a good portion of the files and some were unreadable on the disc. The version of the software is 6.2.0.130. I am running XP Pro, with all updates currently applied.

If so, remove it and carefully put it somewhere else, such as the trash can. From FREQUENT ANSWERS (pinned to the top of the Forum): Formatting CD-R or CD-RW discs: If you format the disc, it is formated with Drag2Disc, and will only work with Drag2Disc. It will call up Drag2Disc every time you put it in. It's what I call "Basic False Analogy" - you format the floppy, then use the floppy - therefore you format the CD-R or CD-RW, then use the CD-R or CD-RW. For all the other programs within the suite (the ones which are better for keeping your data long-term), use a BLANK blank disc, directly out of the package or off the spindle. Drag2Disc: "Never trust your ONLY copy of an important file to a Packet-Written Program, like Drag2Disc, DirectCD, Nero's InCD, Sonic's DLA, etc. Packet-Written discs tend to fail, usually at the worst possible time." Drag2Disc is NOT a good choice for system backup. If you are moving a COPY of a file from one computer to another, it's a fine tool. Lynn

I have tried using brand new discs and it still can not find a drive to burn to. cdangeek, I am not sure what you are trying to tell me. I am already at version 6.2.0.130. I have tried the uninstall/install, roxiozap, and all that other stuff.

You have the All other languages update! Try this below. Using Roxio Assistant: Roxio Assistant is designed to correct Engine Initialization errors. If Easy CD & DVD Creator's Engine does not initialize, the applications in Easy CD & DVD Creator will not recognize your recorder. After running Roxio assistant, you should update Easy CD & DVD Creator as described above in "Updating Your Software to the Latest Version:". RoxAssist.exe is located at: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\Upgrade\RoxAssist.exe (Note: If you have modified the installation of Windows or Easy CD & DVD Creator, the file may be located in a different location.) After running this program you should receive the message "Engine initialized successfully with full recorder support". If you do not receive the message, update your Virus software and then check and clean your system for viruses. After the removal of any viruses, uninstall and then reinstall Easy CD & DVD Creator (use "Add Remove Programs" in "Control Panel".) Roxio Assistant: In some instances Roxio Assistant may require the installation CD, not allowing you to "Cancel" with out it. In this case you will need to insert the Easy CD & DVD Creator install disc into your drive so that Roxio Assistant will have access to needed files. cdanteek

That's what is on the disc I purchased. I haven't upgraded it. I have tried all the steps you listed. I am still without drives detected.
cdanteek
John at Roxio Sep 11 2006, 11:17 AM Post #1 1) We have a product called Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 2) We have a different product called Easy CD & DVD Burning (in a red box). 3) The included software is actually very similar. Item one was discontinued years ago and now support has ended (current content will remain in place on the web). Item 2 is still sold as a bargain product and is still supported. For either product you are welcome to post in this forum. http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=9334 cdanteek
james_hardin
Wow, this is getting frustrating!!! 6.2.0.130 appears to be the right (and only) version for ECD Burning. Let's try the brute force approach to this. In Device Manager, delete both drives and close it. Now delete the Upper and Lower Filters to force XP to redetect the drives on reboot: a. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key b. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.) c. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key d. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key e. Expand the "Control" Key f. Expand the "Class" Key g. Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} h. High light this key by left clicking once on it i. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete" j. Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen Reboot your computer Print out and follow these steps closely! lynn98109
Wow, this is getting frustrating!!! <snip> Print out and follow these steps closely! Follow these steps EXACTLY! I would also suggest inserting a step between about e and f - make a backup (export a copy) of that portion of the registry. You probably won't need it, but it's one less concern. Brendon
Yes, follow those steps exactly I have my reservations about backing up the registry. Does anybody know how to restore it if they break it and the machine won't boot? Think about it.
james_hardin
Been there, done that!!! And I did that when I did not follow my own instructions regarding the Upper/Lower Filter, to the letter… I installed a new HD (bigger and better) and after installing XP and all other software, put the old drive on and transferred files etc. to it. Making a backup of the Registry assumes you can at least get as far as Safe Mode. In my case I could not get that far…
