rep
My father-in-law has a Dell Dimension 2300 PC that came with Roxio Easy CD Creator Version 5.2 to begin with. It also came with a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-240B Drive for which he just removed and put in a Benq DVD DC DQ60 Drive. It also has an operating system of Windows XP Home on it. Problem is that he is unable to use the Roxio software with the old Samsung Drive or the new Benq Drive. We found an update that brought his version of Roxio up to a version 5.3.5.10 but no higher and installed it but no luck in getting either unit to work with Roxio. The Roxio software makes it look as though everything is going to work, but when he gets to the point of actually trying to record data on the new CD/DVD disk Roxio kicks them back out saying that they are damaged or that they already have data on them! Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem? Or should we consider going to another software. From all the different softwares out there he likes the Roxio the best! Help is greatly appreciated here. Thanks.

lynn98109
Pinned to the top of the ECDC 5 board is a post with a link to a Dell update. It was researched by community member Jean Rosenfeld. Whether or not that would work after updating with the regular update, I do not know. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacaturers) companies buy the rights to use the program, accept the responsibility to support it (altho they may discontinue that support after a few years), and often make changes, such as removing portions, or adding things that would otherwise not be available until the following Version. Brendon
Rep, The new BenQ DQ60 is not known by Easy CD Creator 5. To run that drive you'll need newer software. The SW-240B has been supported by ECDC5 since version 5.10d, so it should be recognized in your current system. Why did you replace the SW-240B? Was it not working with the installed software? If the drive is broken or the software has been broken by something (such as other recording software, or Windows updates) then adding an update is not likely to fix it. If you want to run the DQ60 (which will probably behave like a hairy goat until you update its firmware, since the early firmware has a bad reputation) then you'll need new software. If you want to run the SW-240B then you'll need to check the drive is okay. If it is, you'll probably need to uninstall the software, clean the system out, and then reinstall the software to get the software back to factory settings. I wouldn't bother to update to 5.3.5.10 unless there's something in the update you really want, as your original version 5.2 from Dell should be sufficient. Please reply if you have more information or need help with uninstalling and cleaning out your system.
