video_guy
I am having the same issue as lefty. I just purchased and installed "Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning" (red box) not realizing it was a repackaged version 6. I am simply looking for a simple replacement for my old Recordnow software and only really care about the Creator Classic and Drag to Disc programs working. I am getting the "Cannot initialize API. Please reinstall the Roxio software." message when I open Creator Classic. I have uninstalled, ran Roxizap, re-installed. I've uninstalled RecordNow and Sonic DLA (might as well as the Roxio software made it not recognize either of my drives anymore). I have tried all the tips I could find in the forums with no resolution, including the manually installing the .DLL's, downloading the additional drives, etc. I would appreciate any help, right now I don't have any usable burning software. By the way, when downloaded the "proper" update for "Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning" do I download Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 Platinum or Basic updates, or neither? I am using: Windows XP Home Pentium 4 512 MB RAM DVD Drive: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1213S CD Drive: NEC NR-7800A Both drives are functioning properly according to Windows XP. All programs in Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning open without an error message except Creator Classic. If I disable BOTH my DVD and CD drive Creator Classic will open without an error. If either of them is enabled, I get the API error. Thanks for your help. Dan
james_hardin
There is no update for the Red Box, you have the latest version. I doubt if you have actually tried all of tips concerning the API error… http://www.roxio.com/enu/search/default.ht...kb&filter=0 Also it is much prefered to start a new thread. video_guy
Thanks for your response. I tried your link, and I have tried all of those resolutions without any success. I have spent hours on this already. I can't tell you how many uninstall/re-install's I've done and how many re-boots. All of the program modules recognize both my optical drives and both are on the Roxio "supported" list, only Creator Classic won't start. I'm using a standard onboard Intel controller chipset with default drivers, no third-party controllers. Any other suggestions?
cdanteek
Any other suggestions?I am using: Windows XP Home Pentium 4 512 MB RAM DVD Drive: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1213S CD Drive: NEC NR-7800A Have you tried uninstalling the Ide channel the drives are hooked to in device manager. Mine would be the secondary IDE channel. Now see if Creator Classic will start. Then reboot and see again. cdanteek
video_guy
I tried disabling the Secondary IDE Channel. Both of my optical drives disappeared in Device Manager and from My Computer, but Creator Classic opens without any errors. I rebooted and still didn't have optical drives, but Creator Classic would still open. When I enable the Secondary IDE Channel the drives show again, but Creator Classic goes back to the same Initialize API error message. Does this narrow the problem area down for anyone? Thanks again, Dan
cdanteek
I tried disabling the Secondary IDE Channel. Dan, right below disable is the uninstall for the IDE Channel. Did we disable or uninstall? Don't want to get hung-up on a word technicality! Uninstall will remove it, re-detect it on boot and re-apply MS's IDE driver. Would you like to try it this way, one time? cdanteek
video_guy
OK, thanks for clarifying. I had just disabled the controller. My bad, I thought I learned to read a long time ago. Maybe my wife is right and I really don't listen well either! I uninstalled the secondary controller and both my optical drives were no longer available. I checked and Creator Classic would run with no drives. I rebooted and it re-installed the secondary controller automatically, with the 2 drives. I tried Creator Classic again and got the same error message, "Cannot Initialize API". Is all hope lost and time to throw in the towel?
cdanteek
Dan, If your antivirus is up to date and you have run a scan. The same with spyware malware updates and scans! Yes I'm at a loss, to what the problem is! Maybe some other folks have a idea, sorry. cdanteek
video_guy
I have already run a full system scan with up-to-date McAfee virus software and scanned using Ad-Aware spyware software as well. Thanks for trying cdanteek. I appreciate that there are other users out there willing to help. Anyone from Roxio want to try? I don't like giving up, I'll check back for a while for any other ideas but I have lost most hope that I'll ever get this Roxio software to work. I'm frustrated that it seems so many have had this problem with few, if any, reporting back that the "fixes" cured their problem. I've seen posts on this exact error going back for years (wish I would have researched BEFORE buying and loading). It is also frustrating that Roxio sells a new packaged product that is listed as "legacy" in all the support sites and forums. I laughed when I got to the end of one of the official resolutions from Roxio and the final step after a virus scan was upgrade to ver 8 to solve the problem (when my software was 1 day old). Oh yeah, after this stellar product I'm going to give them more money since the software I already paid for doesn't work. I'm glad it was cheap. Since all this killed my Sonic and I've got to dig into an old box in the attic for the orginal disc I think I'll try DeepBurner for a while, it's free and I heard it just works. cdanteek
Dan, I like 7.5 better than 8. 8 has more features and needs more PC horse power. I bought my 7.5's and 8 from the last guy. http://cgi.ebay.com/Roxio-Easy-Media-Creat...1QQcmdZViewItem http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?f...dia+Creator+7.5 http://cgi.ebay.com/Easy-Media-Creator-8_W...1QQcmdZViewItem cdanteek
lynn98109
You say all you want is "Creator Classic and Drag to Disc", and you have WinXP. Are you aware WinXP has basic burning capability built in? That includes the ability to make data discs by a method that acts like drag&drop but is actually the much safer Sessions format (like Creator Classic) rather than the risky Packet-Writing of Drag2Disc, Sonic's DLA, Nero's InCD, etc. And of course, music burning via WinPlayer.
