Video Card Failed

Lor

Question

Hello All

Wondering if someone can help me.

I purchased Media Creator 9 this morning and when I try to preview the slideshow or open the DVD creator the program tests my video card and then the video card fails.

My video card is VIA/S3G UniChrome 1GP I updated from HP this afternoon and also updated Direct X and nothing seems to help. The tech at the store where I bought the media creator says my mother board is failing?? :) I am sure hoping that isn't the case..

Any suggestions?

Notice that one little spike of temperature, -17°F, creeping in from Canada…

This is about 0645 Mountain. Since the coldest temperatures occur about 1 hour after sunrise, it could drop a little more…

I love how all weather info stops at the US border! Guess the rest of the world has no weather.

there is a world outside the US? :)

From this web site (not official VIA, but the best answer I found in a quick search) it looks like your dedicated video is in fact not Directx9 compatible. The system specs I found for your PC say that it has an open AGP slot and an open PCI slot, so I'd second the suggestion of finding an inexpensive DirectX9-compliant video card. Just make sure to disable the integrated video in your BIOS when you install the new card.

Thanks for the wonderful information!! I haven't made it to the store this week yet.. we have -30C weather and a snowstorm on Monday :) I appreciate the information and will have to find out some more info on the BIOS to make those changes!!

Dependingon how old your computer is, some will automatically disable the onboard video when you insert a regular card. But certainly wouldn't hurt to check teh BIOS anyway. :)

eck! -30? Where do you live?

I may just take my computer in and have someone install it  might be easier! I live in Southern Alberta.. a big cold front blowing through... supposed to warm up at the end of the week. My computer is about 2.5 years old. Ancient in computerland... I just upgraded the ram and it all seems to work great. I sure appreciate the advice I have recieved!

Which computer make/model do you have? More likely your video chip set on the motherboard simply doesn't support enough of DirectX 9. There are many video cards on the market between $40-$80 that would work fine with EMC9.

Hi Gary

Thanks for the reply

I have a compaq presario SR1030NX and that sure sounds like the case to me. I will be looking into a new video card on Monday. I am hoping that will solve my issue.
