I find that hard to believe that it won't work with the Sony software. If you can connect that camcorder to your hard drive via firewire, you should be able to capture that video with the EMC 9 software.

How is the video recorded to the camcorder? On tape, mini DVD, or hard drive?

Hard Drive.. and it uses a usb connection. It does not save it as a mpeg2 on the camera's hard drive or at least I have not found out how to do that in the manual.

Videowave does edit HD although I have no idea the difference in the HD formats (HDV and AVCHD). There is no reason why MPEG 2 could not be HD. Just that most manufacturers chose MPEG 4 because the compression is higher creating smaller files.

Videowave also has several HD (720p and 1080i) outut options in MPEG 4, DivX and WMV formats.

in reviewing this thread I note that at no time was the name of the Sony software posted. Could someone post the name of the software, what the errors were and what was done to resolve the issue ? I was hoping to install Vegas Video shortly.

It should be no problem at all using an mpeg2 file from your camcorder since that is the standard for DVD's, and EMC 9 accepts them with no problems.

If you can't open yours in VideoWave, then you have other issues.

I am not sure what file extensions are. AVCHD is the format. The Sony software ask if you want to convert it to mpeg2 format.

The format is AVCHD. I called Roxio and the only way is to hook up the camera like a VCR and record the video like a TV program. Then I can save it as mpeg2. The Sony software is not compatitble with Roxio at this time. Oh well I will have to wait until Roxio can come up something to work with the AVCHD format. When I install the software it locked up my computer.

Well I can sympathize with you on that issue. Do you have a 2nd computer that you can install the Sony software on?

Interesting exchange. The question is whether Roxio can be used to manipulate the AVCHD or is it restricted to the MPEG2? If I"m not mistaken, MPEG 2 is not HD.

If a user cannot manipulate the AVCHD (HD) using computer software, what good is it to even have a camcorder that videos in HD? In the case of the SR1, the hard drive will eventually be filled and then what do you do with the video you've taken? I guess you can store the intelligence in HD format in the computer but if you want to edit it, the editing must be in SD. Am I wrong? Please correct me if I am.

I can't convert the video to mpeg2 format without the Sony software installed on my computer and EMC9 will not work with the Sony software so I was told by Roxio support.
