Stacey
I have 3 computers and roxio's easy cd creator 9, 8, and 6 and am a registered user for all 3 programs( to me easy cd creaor 6 is the fastest of all 3 applications or maybe i am not using it right). the machine running easy cd creator 6 recently died and i upgraded to a new machine. the new machine is running winxp pro (with service pack 2) with 2 dvd burners. the bios and windows both recognize the drives and i am able to use them in other applications. i installed easy cd creator 6 with all the patches and still easy cd creator 6 does not show either of them as a default burner. it does show them in the window showing all the drives. with my old computer (which had win98se then unpgraded to winxp pro then installed service pack 2) i ran in the same problem and was advised to install the program then install the service pack 2 and everything worked fine. what are my options? lynn98109
The three first things that jump out at me - I know that the trick for getting Version 5 to work is to install it AFTER SP2; to install SP2 after the program will kill the program. You might, therefore, consider, doing an add/remove, run roxizap (URL in FREQUENT ANSWERS, pinned to the top of the ECD/DVDC 6 Forum), and reinstall. If the "other applications" include some other Packet-Writing program (like Nero's InCD or Sonic's DLA), that would fight with Drag2Disc for the burner. (Since what Packet-Writing does best is permantly LOSE data, not having any of them isn't a bad idea.) Altho Version 6 does have Dynamic Drive Detection, I'm wondering what kind of drives it is failing to detect. The eariest support for Dual Layer DVD is EMC 7.1; the earliest support for Blu-ray is EMC 9. The burner id strings (see info in FREQUENT ANSWERS on how to find them) might be useful. As to Version 6 working faster - it isn't such a resource hog. Lynn

Lynn keep in mind i am talking about 2 different machines the older one with win98se upgrade to winxp pro then service pack 2 i had to install easy cd creator v6 before installing service pack 2 to get it to work ie. recognizing the drives as burners. the new machine came with service pack 2 preinstalled. james_hardin
( to me easy cd creaor 6 is the fastest of all 3 applications) Do you want some tips on how to slow V6 down??? I think Lynn had some good tips to try. Another thing you might try is in Classic. Under Tools, run the Drive Properties to see what it thinks about your drives and the System Tests. While in there, click Help About and tell us the exact version number we are dealing with.
Stacey
i am running version 6.2.0.111. I need to know how to get the application to recognize my dvd burners as burners, right now it says no default recorders.
james_hardin
You are not answering all of the questions and that makes it most difficult to help you. What were the results from the Drive Properties and System Tests? Version number looks good. You also mentioned other applications do recognize the drives. Do you have other burning applications installed? I am wondering if Sonic's DLA is on that PC as it can interfere.

james_hardin
That won't work Lynn. These tests require a CD in the drive with a lot of files in order to run read and burn tests. (Burn testing is done with laser turned off) I think we are reaching a point to say either the software is not going to work for this PC or try a more involved approach. Involved would be deleting the burner in the Device Manager and clearing the Upper/Lower Filters in Registry. When you reboot, Windows is forced to redetect the drives and rebuild the Filters. It cures problems like this in most cases. This problem is common enough that MS has Guided Help file you can download! This is the link to that. While some of the things listed in their article may not seem to apply, give this a shot anyway.
Stacey
tried it and it doesn't work.......... guess i am stuck using versions 9 and 8. I have a question, why when you add a file in the area to creeate your project it takes so long (couple seconds) for the file to appear where as in versions 6 and previous they appear instantly? Stacey
Was doing some browsing and saw a user feedback on Amazon.com about Easy CD Creator 5 by T. L. Foster (Charlotte, North Carolina United States). She advised to install program + all updates before rebooting and it worked after i rebooted the first time ....... then the software advised to reboot again and then default recorder = none happened... oh well

I have a question, why when you add a file in the area to creeate your project it takes so long (couple seconds) for the file to appear where as in versions 6 and previous they appear instantly? File – Project Settings, turn off Validate. Validate does much less than expected but takes time… It is only checking the file name (character by character) against Joliet Standards and length of file. For XP/W2K machines, you might want to set your default File System to UDF, No Bridge to get away from the old limitations of Joliet. Since MS got so verbose in their directory structure with these OS's the Joliet limit on filepath is often exceeded. This won't happen with UDF.
