DVD backup data vanishes after a few months

Would appreciate any advice or views on this subject!

Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5

Having used Creator Classic for a few years to burn file backups to CD with excellent results I decided to try DVD's for the extra storage space available and opted for Verbatim archival quality +R 4.7 GB disks.

 

The burn was successful and the two, spanned, disks stored in a dark, dry and safe place. Some four months later they were needed for re-installation on a new computer and the disks were unable to be read.

There were no problems reading the CD's mentioned earlier.

Did you use R or RW media? If you used RW media, that is exactly what I would have expected to happen.

What did you use to burn these DVD's? Roxio Backup, Backup MyPC? Also how were you trying to restore? Was the operating system and the backup software already installed?

Have you tried to read the disks on another computer to verify that it's the DVDs themselves that cannot be read? For them to fade after only a few months is possible, but unusual.
