cdanteek
BitTorrent, widely seen as a huge P2P network for unauthorised video file sharing is set to launch a legal online content distribution service in February, selling movies and TV shows through the BitTorrent website bittorrent.com. The BitTorrent Company, which has 35 employees has struck deals with eight media partners, including 20th Century Fox, Paramount and MTV networks. BitTorrent is a proven technology when it comes to efficiently distributing content, since users share out content as it is being downloaded, thus reducing the load required at the main content source. There are many companies that offer large downloads through the BitTorrent network, for example, the popular free Microsoft Office alternative, OpenOffice offers a BitTorrent link as its preferred download option. tbrewst
Don't know if it's related but I just bought the Superman Returns DVD and on the shrink wrap is a "coupon" that allows you to go to a Wal-Mart site and download the movie for $1.97.Seems kinda redundant since I got the coupon off the same movie they're letting me download, for an extra $1.97...lol.It does show though that Wal-Mart is into the game. tbrewst
Yeah cd,I just went through the process and it looks like it's a beta version. You have the choice of the 3 options you said and you have to register your machine to play them just like you have to register your machine to be able to use iTunes. I decided not to spend the 3 bucks to get it to my computer since I already have the DVD but I might this weekend just to see what the story is...lol. cdanteek
Super compression and DRM for the portable. Compression and DRM for the pc. I wouldn't bother with either unless you would like to see the quality on a portable. cdanteek
tbrewst
I just can't understand this being a very popular thing.I guess I just don't see the "thrill" of watching a movie on a 2 or 3 inch screen or of trying to crowd the family around your computer monitor to watch a flick.I'm sure that there are people that do this but I just don't see myself doing it. Another thing to see is what they will charge when the service goes online next year and they start offering movies that aren't just thrown in as an extra. I'm sure one day I'll get some type of device that will allow the viewing of video on a small screen but I am sure that I will not buy it just for that purpose. Based upon the devices I see with my son's friends, a huge margin are the young. Sure, it's great for those with long trips to work who want to catch up on their missed shows and, while I think it will catch on, I'll again be behind the pack still picking up the doo-doo! Guest ml
Remember how kids used to read comic books which they concealed in the pages of a book...... frustrating parents and teachers everywhere? Now they can hide their portable devices and watch a movie....... Might even brighten up those long boring PTA or business meetings.
tbrewst
I think if I was younger I'd become an Optometrist just so I could make a killing from all the people wasting their eyesight on those little tiny screens...lol

The US Navy has a hard time finding recruits, without damaged hearing for that little beep beep you hear in Navy movies! cdanteek
lynn98109
Actually the ipod headphone is a bigger killer, of young peoples hearing. The US Navy has a hard time finding recruits, without damaged hearing for that little beep beep you hear in Navy movies! cdanteek A couple days ago I was over at my software guru's house to do some data entry, and her pre-teen granddaughter was there, iPod on, and reading. A couple times her grandmother asked her something, and it took a couple trys to get thru the iPod. I think we are bringing up a generation of kids who are hard of listening, in addition to hard of hearing. A lifetime or two ago, when I was importing & selling children's story tapes, one satisfied customer said that her sons' teachers were impressed by how well the boys paid attention and retained what they had heard -which she attributed to stories & fairy tales she read them, and tapes she bought for them to listen to. Something to think about if you have anyone in that age range to get a Christmas gift for. Lynn
