Harry Potbelly
I have installed, unistalled, reinstalled Roxio 6 and I have Used the Roxio Assistant. All if this several times and Roxio still does not see the recorder. In the readme txt, I see this is a known problem with instructions for solving it. To wit: Start> Programs>Roxio 6> Home> menu>advanced configuration>check now. At this point an error message appears that expresses their sorrow, but we must end the program. This is a well known problem as their readme reveals. In the updates section, they offer Creator 9. Nobody says this will solve the problem for $80, but why would anyone purchase this upgrade when they have experienced such a lack of support for the Roxio product they already own. If I must buy another system, why would I not try another brand such as Ulead? Does this upgrade come with new hardware too?
lynn98109
OK, this has been moved from EMC 7 Install to the ECD/DVDC 6 Forum. At the top of this Forum is a pinned post of FREQUENT ANSWERS. If this is a request for help rather than a rant, please read the pinned post and come back with enough additional information for us to be able to help you. Lynn PS - since, among other things, you didn't give your Operating System, for all we know you may not be able to run EMC 7, 7.5, 8, or 9 anyway. lutherbaker
OK, this has been moved from EMC 7 Install to the ECD/DVDC 6 Forum. Lynn PS - since, among other things, you didn't give your Operating System, for all we know you may not be able to run EMC 7, 7.5, 8, or 9 anyway. 1. I just purchased Easy CD & DVD Burning for $29.99 from Best Buy. 2. The software does not recognize my burner. 3. I looked at a few forum posts, ran the asistant, rebooted, downloaded something from the ROXIO sight to update my list of burners and still nothing. 4. I started to realize that this product is just a rebranded Easy CD Creator 6 - so I thought about upgrading. So, I started the purchase process. I see that I'd get a $20 upgrade discount if I was a registered user of a Roxio product ... so I stopped and tried to register the product. So, I logged in and started to register the product. There is no EZ drop down choice for this exact product ... so I eventually chose Easy CD and DVD Creator, Starter Kit - which asked me for a CD-KEY - which was great since I have one. I entered the CD key from the back of the CD CASE and unfortunately, the web page tells me error "PRODUCT_REGISTERATION_PRODUCTS_DIFFER". That looks like a php CONSTANT to me ... but nonetheless, it may help you discern why it didn't like my registration. I then BACKED up and registered the product as Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.1, VLP ... and it didn't prompt me for a CD-KEY. That sounds wierd, like it is free software or something ... so I tried again to register the product as Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.1, DVD Edition. Again, same thing. No prompt for CD-KEY. Now, I have two products registered - which didn't require CD keys. That sounds odd because that implies that anyone - whether they purchased a product or not - could register these products right? And received UPGRADE pricing? Maybe they'd need a box or something for the rebate though. Unfortuantely, I don't see an option to REMOVE registered products ... so I don't think my account is correct anymore. The odd thing is ... I'm wondering if upgrading to Creator 9 would fix my problem (which is why I am registering in the first place) and if so, would the products I've registered qualify as upgradable? Its not perfectly clear to me. This leads me back to my original problem - Easy CD and DVD Burning doesn't recognize my recorder. If you reply, please snip as you see fit and just use the info you find relevant in this post. I have a SONY Vaio VGN-FE550G. Came stock with a SONY DVD RW DW-Q58A. Recording tab is enabled. Software is Windows XP. I bought the laptop new from Best Buy earlier this year. OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. CPU: Genuine Intel® CPU T2300 @1.66GHz, 1.66GHz .99GB of RAM I will look for additional related posts - but I would appreciate any help. I do not think Best Buy will allow me to return the product and purchase Creator 9 - but I could try that if necessary. But as the previous poster alluded too - I'm not sure if that would fix my problem. Thanks in advance. -Luther
lutherbaker
Just to clarify my problem regarding a problem finding a recordable drive: name which program which gives you the problem: Easy CD and DVD Burning (purchased 11/2006), Roxio Creator Classic give your operating system: WinXP SP2 clarify which Roxio version number: Version 6.2.0.130, DU20041203, Copyright © 1999-2003 Roxio, Inc. tell us your drive identifier: SONY DVD RW DW-Q58A what recent changes/updates/upgrades you have made to software or hardware: Nothing I can think of. Simply installed EZ CD & DVD Burning. I do not run any virus protection or popup blockers. if you have an error message, we would need the precise text, error numbers, and such, in what situation it occurred, etc. No error message. The Creator Classic dialog box simply says DEFAULT RECORDER: None. When I add files and click FILE >> RECORD DISC, I get a dialog box that says "The are no supported recorders available. Make sure that your recorded is powered on and that all cables are properly connected. Also, make sure the latest version of the software is installed to ensure you have the latest drivers." Hope this helps - thanks in advance, -Luther

cdanteek
Luther, If you can't get it fixed. Take it back to Best Buy with the Laptop and talk to the manager. Show him it will not recognize the drives! Tell him to fix it for free or refund your money. Your PC really dosen't have the horse power for version 9! Do it soon don't drag your feet. cdanteek

While its not the fastest Pentium M available today ... in general, it runs as fast and and handles the same apps my Athlon 3400+ handles. Especially with the Gig of Ram. Will Creator 9 only run well on the latest and fastest machines? Another oddity that is happening now ... if I cold boot with any CD in the drive, the File Explorer can read it just fine. But, if I change the CD or insert a CD after I've finished booting ... the OS never sees any data in the drive. The CD spins, I can select the drive icon in File Explorer - but no data or files ever show up. I think my installation of Easy Creator has done more harm than I originally supposed. Thanks much, -Luther
lynn98109
Well ... for the most part (I don't know ALL the ins & outs of the numbering) anything 6.1 is OEM (Original Eqpt Mfgr), and therefore doesn't qualify for a discount anyway. This 2003 program (that's when the last software updates were done) doesn't deal with DVD/DL. It may or may not recognize a DVD/DL recorder as a generic DVD burner, and apparently in your case it doesn't. The earliest Version to recognize Dual Layer was 7.1 (which can be 7.0 with updates); full support is from EMC 7.5 onward. If you can get a refund, I'd suggest using it on EMC 7 or 7.5 on eBay or amazon.com, etc. I'd also suggest you read the reviews before buying your next choice. They sell them at Best Buy for $30.00. But I thank you for pointing that out. I can't register anything at the sight even though I bought a ROXIO product. I think they may just be slow to get the new product to show up. Anyway, it sounds like alot has changed since 2003. I will print off a few of these letters and make a trip to Best Buy right now and see if I can just exchange the software for Creator 9 ... I will cross my fingers as cdanteek was kind enough to warn me about my available horsepower. Thanks for all your input and let me know if you've any more ideas. Thanks, -Luther I do ... really wish ROXIO had a trial download like NERO. These are just the types of things I'd prefer to avoid. -Luther

In fact, I'd already run DriveFixEZ to no avail. I went ahead and delete the REGISTRY entries as the other knowledge base suggests ... As I allude to in another post, when I change the CD (insert a new CD-ROM into the CD ROM player after I've already booted up) - I get a windows dialog saying "Blank CD" and it asks me what to do when it sees this type of CD. The thing is, the CD is full of data - and if I boot the computer with same said CD in the drive - it shows up just fine. As I think back a week, I wasn't having any problems reading CDs until after I installed EZ Creator. Thanks again for your suggestions. I will download a NERO trial and just see if that brings things back to normal. Else, I may need to reinstall the OS. -Luther Actually - they're working on one right now - isn't finalised yet but if you hold your horses it should be released soon Ahh .. ok - thanks. How about 30 days? I may invoke a 30 day trial of a NERO and see where that leaves me. -Luther

Luther I wasn't saying what you purchased is OEM; but the two registrations you made WERE OEM, and so irrelevant. This re-release is Version 6 Platinum, with all relevant updates already included. In your letters, you might touch upon the concept of re-releasing old software in a context that people assume it will support much newer hardware. The Trial Version of EMC 9 is pending, as it has been for several weeks. You might be wiser to hold of buying it before trying it. (That doesn't mean don't try to get a refund, tho.) Lynn Ahhh - thanks so much. I woud never has guessed that I'd purchased the Platinum version ... Per some other posts, Nero and Roxio playing poorly together, I have uninstalled ROXIO Easy CD and DVD Burning and installed the trial version of Nero 7. Needless to say, I've completed burning my first CD - and the problem of changing CDs has disappeared. I'm sure I would have had similar luck with EMC 9 - but its nice to get things back to normal - at least with reading the CDs. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I really do wish one of them would've worked in my situation. -Luther
