Drives not recognized by EMC8

bradneal

Question

I did a search and came up with a couple of hits that were close, but didn't resolve the problem.

All drives work fine except with EMC8, BravoII, or Premiere Pro 2.0.

With EMC8, if I go to home, it indicates that there are no valid drives. If I try Disc Copy, no drives show up.

If I right click on one of the drives, and select Copy with Disc Copier, I get a message that states "Invalid Command E:\" (E: is one of my burners).

What is strange is that everything was working fine a couple of weeks ago. I have not loaded any new software or hardware, so I am really stumped!

I have updated all the drivers and firmware updates, but to no avail. I even tried beermans regedit thing, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

Do a clean uninstall reinstall, making sure they work after the uninstall.

Do add or remove from control panel first on Roxiox 8 products, then below.

Delete these folders if they exsist:

C:\program files\roxio

c:\program files\sonic

c:\program files\common files\roxio shared

c:\program files\common files\sonic shared

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Roxio

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Roxio

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Roxio

Also remove any IE cookies with Roxio or Sonic in this folder:

c:\documents and settings\username\cookies

Then use a registry cleaner to remove any entries that may refer to the removed applications. THEN REBOOT and reinstall EMC 8.

RegSeeker 1.52: http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

Have it search Roxio Sonic.

Hey CD,

Thanks for the detailed response. I have been out of the office for a few days, so I just now got around to giving your most recent suggestion a try.

Unfortunately it didn't do the trick - even after stripping the system of EMC 8, I still cannot access my burners.

If I load a finalized disc in the drive, I can open it with not problems. But if I attempt to open a blank CD-R or DVD-R/+R, I get an "illegal operation" error.

To my knowledge, I have not changed a thing since I successfully used the drives the last time. The only possibility I can come up with, is that an automatic update or something sneaked in and hosed something up.

achhhhhhh!

First of all one doesn't update drivers for optical drives! They come with the operating system and are sufficient the way they are no updating needed.

Are the drives seen in my computer and device manager? Are there any yellow exclamation marks by the drives in device manager? Can you play a audio cd in wmp?

Last please explain Beermans redgit thing!

On the regedit, Upper and Lower filters, I would bet.

Yes, they show up fine in both My Computer as well as Device Manager.

No

Yes, it plays fine.

Delete Upper Lower filters in Regedit

Thanks,

Brad

Have you tried uninstalling your secondary IDE controller in Device Manager, then reboot?

Hmmm... If that doesn't work, will I need to reinstall it? Sorry, that goes a bit over my head in terms of the ramifications of uninstalling controllers.

Patients appreciated.

Thanks,

Brad

No problem and easy. Right click my computer, click properties. Choose Hardware tab , Device Manager. Then look for ata/atapi controllers. Click the + next to it, Right click the secondary IDE channel a then click uninstall. Reboot and Windows will reinstall and the recheck it!
