Manual activation does not work - MPEG-2 issue

Crossbyname

Question

For several weeks now I have painfully tried to resolve the MPEG-2 Activation issue and have followed the steps outlined in so-called answers posted here, i.e. clean uninstall and reinstall, and activating manually.

When I open MyDVD application I get the following prompt “The following codec(s) must be activated before using the application: MPEG-2. Click OK to activate, or Cancel to abort.

When I click OK I get the following error message: “No permission – Bad installation”. The MyDVD application then closes.

Some people can resolve this issue by following the manual activation - This does not work for me!

I CANNOT MANUALLY ACTIVATE and therefore do not get a 25 digit product key.

The instructions say you must disconnect from internet (done) and try to activate MPEG-2 - but I do not get prompted to activate mannualy - I just get the "no permission" box and no other option except OK or Cancel (both closes the application).

As an IT Manager, I have come across many applications in my time - I have not come across any so frustraitingly buggy without any good fixes or support - I have an open ticket for two weeks now on the so called customer support email facility at Roxio. Easy Media 9 is not fit for purpose and unless Roxio can get their act together soon I will be pursuing a full refund for the product and I will not be recomending this product to any of my colleagues.

Have you tried the "bad permisions" solution that worked for others noted in this post yet?

Update - I followed these instuctions for the 3rd time and at last this annoying message has gone away. One thing I did differently this time, which was not stated at the instruction in the above post is to delete under common files not just Roxio and Sonic from the user's folder but from the "all users" folder also.

I still believe that his issue from Roxio has been unnecessary and has had considerable impact on so many users.

First I tried the Manual Activation Process > http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=12074 < but could not choose Activate Offline

Second I tried Clean Install Instructions for Creator 9 on Windows Vista

but could not find either:

C:\Users\Username\App Data\Local\Roxio

or

C:\Users\Username\App Data\Roaming\Roxio

and yes I did use my user name.

I also used the following advise from Crossbyname

but could not find files here either.

I was able to do everything else in the clean install instructions. Could the files be hidden? I have searched for them.

Any other ideas?

They may be hidden - open any folder, go to tools, folder options, view and click on the check box to 'Show hidden files and folders'.

Look for a previously hidden folder called 'Application Data' (under all entries - 'all users', yourself, admin and so on) and they'll be in there
