EMC 8 won't start up even after reinstalling

elcaminojoe

Question

I think I did a major boo-boo. I got impatient with the software when I opened up one application (I think it was My DVD) by mistake and I wanted to run another (editor). The software said something like "running My DVD will running the editior will result in a degredation of performance." Closed everything out and tried to restart EMC 8, but nothing happened except the EMC 8 icon appearing in my bottom bar. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire software package, but the same thing still happens. I think I must have trashed a Windows file or something external to the EMC 8 software that EMC needs. Anybody have any ideas on what I should do?

From looking at some earlier posts on similar problems, it looks like I should try:

Roxizap

Microsoft Registry Cleaner Tool

Windows Install Cleanup

Kind of frustrating as I was able to start the program one minute, then five minutes later I can't start anything Roxio. I am thinking maybe a .dll file went bad. Will any of the above help me find out if this is true?

One additional piece of info - I have been keeping EMC 7.5 on my system along with EMC 8. After this current problem developed, I could still start 7.5 but not 8.

Last night, I couldn't figure out how to run any of the three - Roxizap, Microsoft Registry Cleaner Tool, or Windows Install Cleanup, but I did find that I could start up individual Roxio components - e.g., My DVD, by clicking on the Microsoft Start button in the lower left corner and then finding the Roxio software through clicking on "Programs." Therefore, it looks like the only thing I can't start up is the master EMC program that just provides access to all the different Roxio capabilities. That gives me enough capability to finish up the movies that I have been working on. After that I'm going to get started using my new Vegas video editing software as there just seems to be too many bugs, pitfalls, and crashes with EMC. EMC does seem to have several nice features which I'll miss - like capability to create movies using the storyboard format.

If you can start the individual components and like the programs then just by pass the master and make shortcuts to each of the components. (right click and drag the executable to the desk top, then pick make shortcut here from pop up list) Not as slick as the master, but allows you to keep using.
