So, if I have a long aiff file, with two songs as one track, with a few seconds gap between them, I can't edit out the middle part?

What if I save first part as one aiff file, and the second part as another aiff file. Could I then join them in Spin Doctor, using option to "Syncing Track Stop Time to the Next Track's Start Time"?

I haved used Toast for years, but this is the first time I have tried importing tracks from an LP to my Mac using SD :)

Thanks,

R

Thanks for the tip. Now, what if you’ve transferred a full 80 minutes to spin Doctor from an audio cassette and discover that there are some gaps in the track. Can you get rid of these gaps or do they have to go into the burned version?

Are you saying there are gaps within a track rather than between tracks? In that case you'd need an audio editing application to delete a segment and still keep the track as a single file. You can use QuickTime Pro for that, but better audio editing apps include Peak and Sound Studio.

Another tip: For fine placement of track start and end points in Spin Doctor, go to Preferences and choose the Waveforms & Tracks Page. De-select the Limit Zoom Range item. This lets you enlarge the waveform to a greater degree so you can better see the precise point where audio begins.

So you're wanting a single audio file without the gap in the middle. You could use QuickTime Pro or an audio editing application to trim out the middle while retaining a single audio file. If you use Spin Doctor you'll have two audio files. There is a way to make them one without using QuickTime Pro or an audio editing application. Add both tracks (minus the silent part) to the Toast Audio window (with Audio CD as the format. Set the pause between the two tracks at zero. Choose Save as Disc Image. Now drag the resulting .Sd2f image file to the iTunes Library. iTunes will import it as a single audio file.

It looks as if I need to get Peak or Sound Studio since the gaps are within the track. Deselecting Zoom Range Limits is a real help, though, in defining the dead spots. Thanks again for your help.

Yes, just exclude them when you mark the beginning and end of tracks. Slide the track marker to the point where the music starts or ends and leave the space between blank.
