Question

I created 18 short clips using video wave. Now I want to add all the clips to one DVD however I reached the max of 16 menu items on a DVD and it tells me I've exceeded the size of the disk. Is there a cleaner way to do this? The video will fit with room to spare if I don't break it up and I suppose I could combine some of the clips but if I don't have to I don't want to. Thanks

P.S. I'm sticking with v7.5. Please don't say v9 can do this because I already returned v9 for a refund - I don't work with software that wont install unless I do things to my computer no other software has ever required including v7.5 which intalled on this computer the first time without a hickup. Thanks

John

Thanks for the help. I guess I have a misconception of how the video wave editor works? I assumed that when I adjust duration the project only burned the adjusted duration. I guess what is really happening is it's burning te entire file and just hiding the parts I adjusted out? Is that correct?

I don't quite understand what you mean by "adjust duration"? Do you mean you are trimming and/or deleting parts from your video clip?

If you are timming and/or deleting sections from your video files, they will not get burned to the final DVD.

Perhaps if you gave a detailed description of the process you are using, it would be easier to help you. Answering the questions asked is also helpful

Not if you're doing it correctly.

A Videowave production is an editing file. When you burn it to a DVD in DVD Builder, it takes your original file, edits it to include any changes that you made and outputs a file that contains what you see in your VideoWave production preview screen. Basically, you're making a new movie from the old one.

Now the program often has to decode and reencode your original video to the DVD standards used by the program. That can increase the size depending on your original video. If you're using DV AVI footage, the size will shrink considerably.

As Walt said, we need more information to answer your question.

I posted a new question but must have done something wrong cuz I can't find it. Anyway I'm slowly learning my way round 7.5. Chaptger question. I've created and renamed them but don't know where they do/will show up on my title screen? Do I have to burn the dvd to see them? Can I create a chapter menu?

Thanks

John

Are you talking single layer DVD or won't fit on dual layer DVD?

I don't know how to answer that question? I'm in DVD builder and atg the bottom it says 4.7GB. I can pick 8.5GB but I don't know how to tell a 4.7/8.5 or single/dual?

Thanks

If you choose the 8.5gb at the bottom of DVDBuilder, does the progress bar still indicate it is full capacity?

How do I tell if a CD is dual layer and/or that my burner is dual layer capable?

Thanks

John

It shows that it will fit with room to spare but how do I know I can actually burn a dual? or is that a given?

Thanks

John

How do I get to edit/change the background image on the chapter menu? I Somehow did it once without knowing how? I create the chapters, customise the text for the individual chapters but the background image defaults to whatever standard title I used? I can go into DVD Menu - Change Menu Theme but I don't seem to be able to change the Chapter background?

Thanks

John

What is the total length in time of your production? A DVD will only hold 60 minutes at best quality.

I didn't know there was a maximum of 16 files, however; I know that when I have loaded in video clips that exceedes the amount on the disk, there will be a red bar in the right of the capacity indicator. You can ignore if you intend on keeping every bit of content, but when you get ready to burn, go into "File" and then select "Project Settings". It is there that you can make adjustments based on the quality of the video.

The higher the quality of video, the more disc space that is required. One thing I cannot I cannot figure out...I loaded two videos that were just under 2 G each and the DVD Creator said that I was nearly 1.5 Gigs over the DVD limit. Go figure. So I burned them on LOW video quality to a RW disc to see what kind of video was produced. It bites! It is comparible to watching a security video which must be putting out only 5 frames per sec.

Therefore goes to my second dilema and the solution could help both of us out: How in the world do I burn my DVD project to the Hard Drive, so I can use a decent Compression Program like DVD Shrink to get a DVD project down to size? :)

P.S. You will know when you have a DL DVD....They are expensive, although I did see on PriceWatch a Spindle of 100 DL DVD for about $170 U.S. Great price, but a little much for me to pitch out in one shot. I will have to wait until my Tax Refund

Source file size is not important when creating DVDs, its the timelength of your project that counts. A standard DVD con only hold 60 minutes of best quality video. To get more you have to reduce the quality. You can also "burn" you production to an iso file and then use DiscCopier to burn that iso file to a DVD. DiscCopier transcodes the iso file to fit on the 4.7GB DVD.

That's 60 minutes on a 4.7 GB DVD. You can get almost 2 hours onto a dual layer.

As to whether you have a dual layer DVD burner, try using the EMC 7 Extras & Utilities, Disk and Device Utility to see what it will read and write.

There is another way to get more than one hour onto a 4.7 GB DVD. You can burn the production to an 'image file' (advanced setting) and then use Disk Copier to 'shrink/transcode' the up to 2 hours of video onto a DVD. It's going to take some time and the quality will not be as good as one hour onto a DVD.

As far as I know, you cannot change the chapter menu background, they will always be the same as for the title menus.
