power calibration area error-medium error (problem)

ftngrave

Question

i have:

easy media creator 8

dell 2004 desktop, 2.2 Gb processor with 700 some RAM

my cd drive is: samsung cdrw/dvd sm-348b

i burned maybe 8 or so music projects successfully. my last project, i wanted to burn 4 copies. first three successful; upon the fourth, i get the power calibration error-medium error message and roxio asks me if i'd like to try burning the project again. i did this twice, same thing happened. so i threw away the three "errored" cds. by the way, all the media was audio. i read a post on here about the same error message with someone saying it could be my drive or the cd brand. my situation is strange because things worked for awhile and then they didn't (the other post user had just gotten a new drive). can anyone help? i actually need to buy some more blank cds and want to burn several more cds. in addition to cd brand, the other post suggested type, + or -R. my blank cds i've been using are memorex cd-r 80 min. 48x multi speed. what is a +R? should i buy a different brand than memorex that are +R cds? or is it my drive. also by the way, my drive plays cds fine still. hope this makes sense. tried to include all the info. thanks.

Memorex is not a good choice. Also it is possible to run into a bunch of "Bad" discs in a cakebox of them for almost any manufacturer. Plus and dash CD? I must have been asleep during that lecture> :) there is a CD plus which is an enhanced CD that stores more than just the music and is multi session. Perhaps someone else will help with that.

Poster wanted to consider buying Cd's that are CD+R. Not a DVD that is plus or dash. I know that I try to answer the question with too much detail, hence the discussion about enhanced CDs. Do you know of any CD that are CD+R? Now who should worry about whom?

I apologize for my confusion!

There are CD-R and CD-RW media! DVD-R DVD-RW, DVD+R DVD+RW, DVD Ram. Coming in now is Blue Ray and HD media but that is to early for main stream folks!

The CD's I know of are as posted above CD-R CD-RW!

I think that you just confirmed what Steve was talking about. There are no CD+R disks, but there are DVD+R discs. However, the OP was talking about getting CD+R disks, not DVD+R discs, and I believe that that is what Steve was alluding to.
