Why even have mpeg-2 activation code

bostondriver

Question

Just curious... Does Roxio really think that someone would buy EMC9 and not activate mpeg-2?

What subset of uses would fall into that camp? So why on earth didn't mpeg-2 just come already activated? Just pay the *&^%ing royalty on every copy of EMC9 shipped.

If I have the reason wrong, please enlighten me. I use other peoples Intellectual Property (IP) in the software products I build and never, ever, did I need to expose the internals of the system to one of my customers.

I guess I was just lucky Bruce. I think that the activation went good for me as I was really not paying attention and was guzzling down a beer--So rather than me screwing up the proceedure, the computer just did what it was supposed to--LOL

LOL. It worked no problem on my computer, but then I went back to a previously ghosted image, and the next time, I had to activate offline, and it took 3 tries to do it. It didn't have as much trouble as some of these folks are having.

I'm sure it's just to protect themselves.

From what I know, Roxio has contracted for the rights with other companies that have the rights to the mpeg options in their program and as such have that contractual agreement say that each user will have to activate their use of it. And as Paul has eluded to, it is just protection for both parties. I don't see the big deal about having to activate anyway.
