Internet Explorer Incamptability

Mike DVD

Question

It doesn't seem appropriate that Roxio will not issue a patch or a work around for EMC 7.5 DVD Builder. As acknowledged by John at Roxio, EMC 7.5 is not compatible with IE 7. So my only choices are to live with the security flaws of IE 6 or upgrade to EMC 9. I think EMC 7.5 is a great product. However, this lack of support for customers of 7.5 by Roxio makes me think if I have to spend money for an upgrade maybe it should be for a competitor's product. Roxio, help please!

Contact MS, and tell them to fix what they broke. I would like to see Roxio patch 7.5, but it doubtful that it will happen. I checked out IE7, and it offered nothing that I was interested in, so I am happily running EMC 7.5 and IE6

And, if you think that there won't be security flaws in IE7, dream on.

Bruce, thanks for your response. I agree IE 7 will have security issues just like all the other IEs. I just think Roxio would be smarter to please customers with a patch instead of just posting a comment from John on the discussion board. If I was Roxio I'd rather have customers spreading the word about how responsive Roxio was to a problem with IE 7 rather than just telling everyone Roxio left me with a problem and a couple of poor choices to get around the problem.

Speaking of the discussion board, I've been a registered Roxio user since I purchased 7.5 and never got an e-mail about the 7.5 & IE 7 problem. Instead I had to waste 2-3 hours trying to make DVD builder work, discover on my own that it was IE 7, rush to put a notice on the Roxio board to save others the frustration, only to find Roxio knew about the problem and wasn't very proactive in communicating it.

And some how I'm supposed to feel good about purchasing the upgraded 9.0....

Sadly, your opinions make no business sense in the real world.

It would be nice but it isn't going to happen…

It has been stated that there will be no patch for EMC7 to work round what happened with IE7. After all, we are now on version 9 (and the fault here lies with Microsoft in maing sweeping changes to the OS kernel that actually killed off some apps)

Actually - IE 7 is NOT that secure anyway - there were some very nasty exploits disxcovered in a matter of days after launch.

I'd recommend that you drop IE7 and, if you want a good browser with decent security, consider downloading and installing Firefox - that has security issues fixed in a matter of days after they come to light
