Videowave locking up

Greg L

Question

Let me get this out of the way early: I did have, but have since uninstalled IE7.

I have typically had very good luck with EMC 7. I mostly use Videowave. However, I have recently had lots of trouble with the program locking up leaving me staring at the hour-glass symbol. I often have to go to Windows Task Manager to close the program, then I can't restart the program without restarting my computer first. I'm not getting any error message.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program and downloaded update 7.1.1.189

I have a new Norton Internet Security that I've disabled to see if that was affecting it, but with no change.

There is no consistent act that causes it to lock up. Sometimes the simple act of dragging a picture into the story board with do it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Greg

This probably sounds like a dumb question, but how often do you restart your computer? You might need to restart to clean out your RAM occasionally.

Have you defragmented your hard drive recently? Video editing programs don't work as efficiently with fragmented files.

Also, go into the VideoWave\ Tools \ Options\ File control and delete the files in the Audio Preview. You don't need them once your project is finished and it will redo the files for the production you're working on.

Have you installed any other new programs other then the Norton and the now removed IE 7?

Thanks for the reply. The computer is generally restarted daily. I checked the hard drive and it has little fragmentation, but I'll defrag when I go to bed tonight and try the other option you mentioned. I'm not too optimistic as I haven't been able to keep this thing running long enough since I reinstalled (multiple times) to have many files clogging up the Audio Preview.

The only new program I remember installing is Firefox Mozilla, and I have uninstalled that too to see if it was the culprit. Obviously not since I'm still locking up.

Thanks again.

I have exactly the same problem. Initially I could not boot into WinXP after a fresh install of Roxio VW7 - it just hung at a black screen. I can get back into XP by selecting "last known good config". Then, using VW7 I can execute a couple of actions (any actions) before getting a hung app and hourglass. I also have to totally reboot to be able to launch VW7 again. Exactly the same as Greg. I *DO* still have IE7. I'd like to know why I have to revert IE7 to use VW7 and it doesn't even sound like reverting fixes the issue anyway.

I'm really upset. On my previous machine I used to use VW7 all the time and loved it! So much more stable than the P.O.S. that Pinnacle marketed. VW7 made many a movie for me. :) I really want to get back into it.

Thanks anyone who can help.

You have to dump IE7, because it doesn't play nice with anything but EMC 9. For the reason why it doesn't, you would have to ask Microsoft.

I rolled back to IE 6, and I am back to using my EMC 7.5 with no problems.
