Cannot remove - cannot launch - cannot reinstall

Art Alisio

Question

Yesterday while using Roxio 7, it seemed to be hung up and took so long I finally pulled the plug on the computer - a Dell Dimension 8400 (very powerful with loads of space available), and rebooted. After that, whenever I tried to launch the Roxio 7 program I got this mesage in a box entitled "Microsoft Visual Runtime Library"

Runtime Error!

Program: . . . les\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 7\Home Page\HomePageAPP.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I get the same type of notice when I try to use the disc to reinstall.

SO I TRIED TO UNINSTALL. When I did that, I got the following message in a box entitled: Windows Installer

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate Path to a folder containing the installation package 'Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.msp' in the box below:

The "box below" contains the following: C:Docume 1\ARTALI 1\LOCALS 1\Temp\is47\.

CAN ANYBODY HELP?

I am curious about your computer specifications - how powerful is the processor, how much RAM do you have?

Before trying to launch EMC 7, did you do a defrag, reboot, and turn off all unnecessary applications (screen saver, internet connection, AV, etc)?

I ask, because on my Win98 SE, when I do all that and then launch Photoshop, I walk away for 5 minutes or so to keep my hands off the keyboard to avoid damaging the computer / installaltion. It takes a while for that program to launch on 400MHz of processor. And that is why I now ONLY run that program on the newer WinXP SP2, with 2.4GHz of processor power.

If a program is hanging, and you have given it a LONG time to come to terms (say, at least 15 minutes), the next thing to do is try Ctrl-Alt-Delete and end the program. The 2nd step is to do Ctrl-Alt-Delte to reboot. If it is frozen and that doesn't work, the next step is to try the reboot button. ONLY IF that doesn't work, try the On/Off button. And ONLY if that doesn't work do you try to pull the plug.

You have now discovered why.
