DVD Builder compatible with WMP 11?

jroc

Question

A few days ago I updated Windows Media Player 10 to WMP 11. When I tried yesterday to burn a DVD Builder production it would not burn. No burner path shows in the Drive window and below that window it says "No drive present." Could this be an incompatibility issue with WMP11 or is this failure just coincidantal with the timing of that upgrade?

VERY scary, guys, especially since I'm a decidely non-geeky user. So...I'm going to reread this stuff, go to the various areas suggested and look them over, then cross my fingers, dance around the computer naked while whirling a dead chicken over my head, and take a stab at this. What the hey, I've been wanting to get a new computer anyway.

I'm with you on all of the above. Well, except that part about dancing naked with a dead chicken. :)

It seems that some are having trouble when updating to WMP11. Try removing the drive in device manager then rebooting and see if that helps.

Uh...not clear on that. How do I go about removing the drive?

Control panel/System. Then click on the Hardware tab then Devices. Look for DVD/CD rom drives and click the plus sign next to it to open. Highlight your drive and hit the delete button. Accept the changes and reboot. Windows will pick up the drive upon reboot and maybe that'll fix your 'no drive present' problem.

Followed your directions above but it didn't fix the problem. Still have the "no drive present" problem. Any other suggestions?

You didn't by any chance get the upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 at the same time, did you?

Oops, sorry people, it didn't occur to me that returning to this thread with the solution that finally worked would also help others. I apologize for being so self-centered. Ultimately what solved my problem and got my burner "present" again was the link below, sent to me by Roxio Support. I was afraid to use the firmware update because I wasn't sure of the make of my CD burner. However, updating the PX engine through that link appears to have solved the problem. Thanks again, everyone.

Please download and install the PX engine as well as firmware update.

In that screen that Paul has showing, go to Ide ATA/ATAPI Controllers, click on the + sign to the left of it, then right click on the Secondary IDE Controller, then left click on Properties, then left click on Advanced Settings. You should see Ultra DMA Mode 2 for the Current Transfer Mode. If you see PIO mode, try to change it to Ultra DMA Mode 2.

You can back out of there, right click on Secondary IDE Channel, and select Uninstall. Click OK, then reboot your computer. If things don't show up correctly, you could have a dying optical drive.

Don't know how you feel about working with the registry but you could try my suggestion in this thread. Back up your registry first or get a geeky friend to help you.

Note We recommend that you uninstall all CD recording or CD writing programs before you delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values. You can reinstall any programs that you use after you resolve this problem.
