MikeFarad
Hello, I have quite a few data CD-Rs I made with CD Creator 4.05(&Windows ME). I now have a PC running XP Pro which can't read my CDs. I just read that CD Creator 4 is not supported by Windows XP. Seeing as I have important info on those disks, how can I get it onto the PC with XP Pro? P.S. I still have the computer with Windows ME. TIA & HAND
gi7omy
If you made them with Direct CD they won't be readable in the newer versions You may want to try isobuster or CD Roller to access them - trial versions are available http://www.cdroller.com/ http://www.isobuster.com/
Brendon
P.S. I still have the computer with Windows ME. Hi Mike, Presuming that computer still has version 4.05 installed you need to use it to read the data from your Direct CD discs, and then write it to a disc you make with the ordinary CD Creator program, in a data project. Creator's discs are readable by any PC, whereas you've already seen those made by Direct CD aren't interchangeable. Once you've read the data from a disc onto your hard drive, insert an unformatted CD and write the data to that CD with Creator. Writing to CD-R discs will give you a nice, universal, permanent backup. However if you're only concerned with getting the data onto the XP machine and you don't want it on CD afterwards, it will be fine to use rewriteable (CDRW) discs. In this case get a couple of CDRWs in the Standard 1-4x speed range, and after you've written and transferred the data use Creator to erase the disc and then use it again. CDRWs aren't good for permanent storage, but they're excellent for transferring data.

It was surprising how long it took to burn a CD, but I should complain-I can transfer data now. Thanks again HAND, Jon
Brendon
Yes, seems like forever when you're back at 4x CD speed or thereabouts. Glad it's working. Go well.
