DVR-MS Transcoding Fails - Mostly

Bi11

Question

I don't see this as a common problem on the board so it must be me. When I attempt to create a DVD of a DVR-MS file, a MyDVD window opens and I choose a DVR-MS file to add. The Transcoding window opens and starts but nothing happenes. Available disk space does not change. Ocassionally if transcodes about 500MB worth before stalling. That said, once every 20 or so attempts it transcodes perfectly and creates an excellent DVD.

The DVR-MS files are between 5 and 7 gig, but I closed all virus protection and firewalls, have over 170 GB available of the target drive, and about a half of gig of RAM available. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or can do differently to transcode DVR-MS files all the time instead of rarely.

Thanks for your help and patience with someone unskilled in the digital visual arts.

What is the source of the DVD(s)? If commercially produced or download with protected content, you may be running into DRM issues. Read this.

It's a direct connection with Comcast Cable through Gateway's TV Tuner Card (no specifics). If no copyrighted movie transcoded I would assume DRM, but some do (like Crash which transcoded once but not twice) and, like movies, local programming transcodes some of the time. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the link.
