Roxio Creator Plus (Dell preintalled)

jwcorbett

Question

Setup a new Dell Latitutude 620 laptop and we use the provided Roxio Creator Plus software. Application works fine until Windows Media Player 11 is installed. Now we get multiple error messages when exiting Creator Plus software. All related to mediahub.exe file. Doesn't seem to affect the software use, but just annoying. Any ideas! Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both pieces of software already.

Actually, although the date on the download page has changed, it is not a new release of WMP 11. Still version 11.0.5721.5145.

There were comments to that effect on the MS Windowsmedia.player newsgroup and other places.

So it seems that it was just a web page update (MS does that from time to time, just to confuse :-))

Check with Dell, its their OEM version.

the OEM responsible stance is a catch22 chase - forums at various 3rdParty providers have these same messages regarding MediaHub.exe and C++ errors...(not particular to one OEM version). I have also seen these errors listed in relation to box/retail product.

There is a conflict between Roxio/Sonic software and Microsoft Windows Media Player 11.

rolling back WMP to v9 or v10 temporarily resolves the issue - but that isn't really a technical "fix" - that's more like

Patient: "doc, it hurts when I move my arm like this"

Doctor: "well, don't move your arm like that"

I think the final resolution has to come from Roxio/Sonic, and then be rolled out to the OEM/3rdParty channels for supported update to branded product/machines. I'm sure the techies at Roxio/Sonic have the resources, and interest, in making their product work in the newest environments?

I'd have to believe that when Roxio rolls out their patch for Vista it will solve the WMP11 problems as 11 will be part of Vista. As far as OEM's go,when they start issuing their versions of the updated EMC9 the problems will go away for them also.If their versions are based on anything but EMC9 I doubt that there will be support for Vista or WMP11.

It's more like Microsoft replaced the shoulder and left the arm in a bad state than anything else

MS are the ones who brought out two 'updates' that wrecked existing apps - not the software houses who wrote them.

As far as Dell versions go, these were modified to suit Dell who also undertook to supply updates and patches.

If you bought a car, you go to the dealer who supplied it for service - you don't drive to the factory and ask them to deal with it

Here are instructions and a patch link for the Roxio Creator Plus "mediahub.exe" errors with Windows Media Player 11:

Roxio Knowledgebase

C++ Runtime error citing "mediahub.exe"

http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000058MD

ID Number: 000058MD

Products: Sonic Digital Media (Dell), MyDVD 6, DigitalMedia Studio/Plus 7

The "Dell Sonic Digital Media Customers:" resolution worked with Roxio Creator Plus on my Latitude D820 (without uninstalling WMP 11).
