Slideshows on VCD

kepples

Question

This is my first attempt at trying to put 3 slideshows on a VCD using EMC9 that will play them in turn on the DVD player. I have the three titles in the preview pane and tried the various combinations when selecting 'view' with titles highlighted and I can get them to play in preview. However after burning to disc and playing in DVD player either none play or just the first one. Do I have to link them in some way, and if so how. Any help to rectify the problem would be appreciated. Thanks

I have to report I have failed with my VCD despite the use of the user guide. The 3 slideshows were easy and look excellent. Writing to disc appears to be more complicated although it plays perfectly in preview, it will not play on DVD player. I shall watch out for the "idiots guide" which I am sure will be produced eventually. Meanwhile I shall print the photos and send to relatives the old fashioned way.

set top DVD players are notoriously fickle beasties - they can be very picky about the discs - try a different brand (or switch from -RW to +RW or vice versa)

Funnily enough it's the expensive ones that are most picky - cheap and cheerful ones take almost anything you throws at them :)

Have you checked to see if your set top DVD player will play VCD's?

You would be better off getting a DVD burner and burn to a DVD and forget about VCD or SVCD. The DVD burners are inexpensive now.

Gi7omy, Earlier to-day a friend did in fact suggest trying different discs etc. I have tried 3 types and makes and also tried them on a DVD recorder and DVD player. From reading the user guide I get the impression that the actual instructions apply to DVD and that reference to VCD & SVCD is only in passing. I have run out of discs now so shall have to obtain some more anyway to try again so will try yet another make.

It would be interesting to know if any other member has been successful, which would confirm one way or another. Still its fun trying and am learning all the time. I could pose a question on it with Roxio I suppose.

grandpabruce, yes my instruction book confirms VCD & SVCD are recogniseable. Perhaps I shall have to invest in DVD burner as you suggest, although that would mean using a 4.7GB disc. Thanks to you both for your help. Incidently my friend did in fact say he seemed to re-call that a few years ago Roxio5 did it without difficulty. Is the answer to obtain an old copy of 5, now there's a thought.

Although your book may say that your player can handle VCD, I remember one I had which also claimed that (and also claimed that it could handle WMA and MP3) - it didn't and I found out in the end that I had to access a sub-menu (undocumented) and actually turn that facility on.

Google the make and model of your player and see if anyone has posted the sub-menu code.

ECD5 - not recommended on XP with SP2 installed - a FEW people got it to work - but not many

Santa Claus that fine upstanding fellow put a DVD burner in my Christmas Stocking. So the postings under "Slideshows on DVD" will be of great help to me. Thank you.

Let us know how it works for you. The first thing you do, after you install the new burner, is go up to the manufacturer's website, and download and install the latest firmware.
