Jean-Paulo
I am a long time user of Easy Cd and Direct-cd then Grab to disk. I recently moved to XP, using a dual boot on my system. I have two burners, one CD Plexwriter and one Pioneer DVR-110d. I know it is not weel looked to cite other burning programs, but here I need to. Using Creator 6 (latest patches) I am able to burn a CD, but not a DVD. The program just says 'ok', and then proceed doing nothing, no light on burner, for ever. No error messages. - This only happens under XP. The same DVD/Burner/files/media burns correctly under WIN 98SE. - The same problem occurs with Deepburner (latest) - However, the same combination works fine with NERO 6.6 (trial) I tired to re-install, remove completely the ASPI layer, change the usual culprits in registry (lower filters!) Nothing works. Note that XP says the burners are SCSI device, not Atapi (well the CD is, but not the DVD) (Tekram 395) I am now reduced to use Nero to do DVD burnings, and then to reboot on WIN 98 to do my backups, which are mostly done with Grab to Disk. What a sad situation. I know the problem is probably not a Roxio Creator fault, but some XP failing. Thanks for any help there.

Willy B.
Hey, J-P - I actually have a similar problem on a friend's machine (which I got backed into maintaining for her), and I haven't spent too much more time with it (she still has other issues just operating it - it works great for me, but she refuses to really learn how to use various software pkgs. anyway), and I want to upgrade her to XP, but haven't gotten there yet, either (it's still a 98-SE system, but upgraded as far as I could go). A couple of things come to mind here - have you upgraded your Bios to the most recent (non-Beta) version? I would be sure to do so. Also, with all of the hardware and dual/boot issues, how is the rest of your system? If it's older, have you upgraded/max'd-out your processor based on what the Motherboard will take, or atleast close, given the cost factor (much lower for older systems, obviously). Also, if you can, check the clock-speed of the Motherboard vs the Ram, which you might be able to "juice" a bit, and then change Ram accordingly to gain some noticeable through-put and performance. With the dual-boot situation and multiple devices, do you have any hardware conflicts or driver-related issues? Do you have enough Ram and enough hard drive free space for the system to work properly? Also, have you checked what kind of "free" ram/available resources you have in 98-SE on boot up (I would also suggest you check for unnecessary processes and apps. in XP as well). AFTER you get some idea as to where all the system related things stand, then give this a look - the problem I'm having on the other machine has to do with the file associations as regarding the DVD portion of things, and I haven't been able to quite get it corrected. Again, I also had much better luck with Nero, but still not what I wanted, and to me, it's harder to use than Roxio, anyway. What I managed to get from Nero, though, was that they think the DVD-related problem is a conflict with the Real Player, and suggested that I uninstall the whole thing (Realplayer, that is), and see if it clears up. In my case, I didn't pursue it, since it does get used for some other things, and I didn't want possible wider system-related issues for my friend who would not have a clue... SO - maybe some of this will help. Good Luck. W.B.

Also, when going to XP and burning, Both CPU and memory are 'in the green'. Then I really think that this is coming from a bad file in the XP setup, that Nero does NOT use (it has its own ASPI layer, for example) I would really suspect a performance or bottleneck problem if I was ever unable to burn a DVD, but I do, but on XP and WIN 98SE, and Nero burns at 16X, were definitely a bottleneck would show. I do not see Realplayer installed, and I am avoiding much of those useless tools. I agree Roxio is easier to use, and anyway the Grab to disk option is a must as Incd will not be working with my disks. I am really in a jam. Guest ml
You may have a conflict between Nero's packet writing program and Roxio's Drag To Disk. Try uninstalling one of them and see if it will work. You've gone to the website of the DVD Burner manufacturer and installed any updates (firmware)? Even brand new burners frequently need updating. And this is a real long shot.... in order to get a DVD burner recognized by Roxio on one of my computers( WinXP ), I had to go to My Computer, right click on the drive, choose Properties and go to the last Recording tab. Then I had to check ( or uncheck, I cannot remember which one) 'enable CD recording' and click Apply, OK. Then I had to go back and undo what I'd just done. I have no idea why it worked or if it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

The writer IS recognized, and burns CD, but it is noted as 'SCSI', what it is not, and does not write DVDs ! I do not have any trial copy of Roxio 8 or 9. I would hate to buy it just to find out it also does not work either...
gi7omy
CD and DVD drives are recognised as SCSI (this is due to emulation) - that is normal Trial version of EMC9 (free for 30 days but missing some parts) is availabl;e http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=13472
